Quick questions

It has been getting really cold at night here, can set up my computer on the front porch and do some overclocking? OR would I have problems with condensation building up all over and frying everything??

Were you going to sit out there with it? You could hook up some kind of hose and a fan and pull some cold outside air into your case - I know people who have done that in the past with good effect.

Yeah, I was going to bundle up, make a pot of coffee and have fun OCing for a few hours. I have seen the hose/window/fan mods before, but I thought this would be more [H].

There have been people on here do it before. You don't have to worry about condensation while you're outside (unless you let it sit out overnight). When you bring your sub-zero computer back inside, though, you should take some precautions.

Yeah, I know all about the precautions of bringing it back inside. I had a buddy of mine that left his computer in the trunk of his car overnight after a lan party. he fried his mobo in the morning when he brought it in and turned it on right away.
I plan on only staying out a few hours at most. and when I'm done, I'll just bring it inside to slowly warm up; and not plug it back in until later on that morning. Hopefully, it should be pretty cool outside (for SC anyway.) Tonights forecast is clear with a low of 20F
I'll be taking pictures and screen shots and documenting the whole thing, and posting here on the forums!

Another question: Would this go in the Overclocking & Cooling forum, or would it go in the extreme cooling solution sub forum?

I've always thought about trying that in the winter.

I've been tempted to buy a long length of dryer duct and rig it up to a window with a case fan cranking 15* air into my case. :)

If you do it, take pictures and keep us posted! :D

amen, im gonna buy some dryer ducting and mdf board, and wire a fan to the ducting and route cold air to my radiator.

had i bought the DD torture rack i would route the radiator outside with 1-2 fans on it and close window most of the way.

my take on the whole winter situation was the same as i have always done ever since i moved to this country and got watercooling... the computer sits next to a window, the radiator sits *on* the window and long 1/2" tubing go between the two... ive always been on the lookout for powerful pumps , and my room has always been uninhabitably cold... but boy do the temps stay low or what!

small update: We are still a go here. About to watch a movie, then move the computer outside. Got a desk set up already. it's -3C outside right now. I know that it's not not Siberia, but the temp is much colder than the ambient temp in the house atm. I'll start a new thread with pics and screen shots, benchmarks and such...

I believe you only need to worry about condensation if the actual components were colder than the ambient temperature, and when dealing with only air, i believe its simply not possible. Since youll be outside, you dont need to worry about that until you bring it back in, like another poster mentioned.

Even if one routed and airduct from outside, youd still need some really cold air to make the components below ambient in the room.

you should get the pump i have, 950gph with @ 3ft head

I got some packages from fedex today for my build and it was about 0 F out. They were sitting out there a while I think and I know I should have waited to assembly my computer but I couldn't wait.

Good news is: Mobo didn't fry and it wasn't warming up inside for more than an hour while I assembled it. You should be fine though as long as you give it some time when you come back in.
