Can an LCD "develop" bad pixels?

Here is my question...

Does a monitor have bad pixels because of the factory making a partly-defective monitor? Or do bad pixels 'form' in the shipping/handeling process?


I just want to know this because if I buy one off of the forums here, that says, "no bad pixels" under the description, could it have some bad pixels when I get it? (because of shipping)

I bought a 2001fp from a guy on here. He said it had no dead pixels. I got it, hooked it up, and didn't see anything. Then the next day my brother was looking at it and he was like 'why are all these pixels messed up?'

I was like 'where?' and he pointed them out. There was like 2 dozen stuck pixels in the upper left corner and various ones in the middle. I guess I just didn't see them at first.

And I don't think the guy I bought it from was trying to rip me off, b/c he gave me a full refund and covered return shipping.

I've had my flat panel for a couple years now and it has three more dead subpixels now than it did when I originally got it. So yeah, I would say they can develop over time.

when i got my 712N for testing, the first thing i did -of course- was to look for dead pixels. i didn't find any on the first day. however, 2 days later i found 2 dead pixels and 3 sub-pixels.

i'm not sure, i could have missed them the first day, but i dunno for sure...
