Can an Android phone work as Windows bootable USB drive?

Hi

I want to install Linux in a laptop with empty disk.

What are my options?

Ideally I would like to:
1) create a a partition in the laptop
2) download the Linux Iso in that partition over WiFi or transfer the Linux ISO via a USB cable from a folder in an Android phone
3) boot/install Linux from there

Or I was thinking to create a partition in my Samsung S23 and use the phone as a bootable USB containing the Linux ISO.

Is that possible or anything easier?

PS: I cannot root the phone.

Thanks!

No, it won't work without root.

Without a spare USB drive of any sort, you'd have to make a FAT32 partition on the drive & extract the ISO to that partition in order to boot to it & move forward.

I'd be terrified what could be on the smart phone that would or could be transferred unintentionally, so please do the other suggestions above. :D

Thanks though the major limitation is not having a second laptop to create the boot USB.

I seem to be able to do it with EtchDroid app but for above mentioned reasons (security mainly), I wanted a standalone method using the empty laptop on its own.

EtchDroid will write the ISO to a drive w/o any security issues... Not sure what all of this FUD is about but make the bootable USB drive & test it.

If you have a Windows system, you can use Rufus or Balena Etcher to make a Linux bootable drive.
