I have a sandbox virtual machine set up for testing some various customer configurations to test our software at work. I recently had someone ask me to benchmark performance at different CPU speeds.

Is it possible to have a virtual machine throttle the CPU to certain frequencies? I am currently using VirtualBox but also have access to VMWare here at work.

I think you need an enterprise/corporate level version of VMware. I forgot exactly what this edition of VMware is called.. It works with VMware Infrastructure Client, might be called VirtualCenter Server.
 
yes, depending on what version of VMware's products you have. Sorta.
 
Is it just a VMWare thing? I have access to it, but I'll have to get IT to add my account (not a big deal, but slows down the process a bit). If I can do it via VirtualBox, I can set it up and be rolling first thing in the morning.
 
you can use Xen to throttle cpu. It is free but might be a bit more than you are willing to get into as it is a service level installation unlike VirtualBox or VMWare Workstation/Player.
