Can a vid card cause damage?

Long story short, my computer got zapped and all the components are pretty much fried. The CD-ROM and DVD-ROM work normally, just are a little noisier than before. I am replacing everything else, but want to keep the vid card. It is an ATI 9200 card. Is there any possible way that this card could cause damage to my other brand new components? It worked in my old PC, but I am just wondering if damage could have been done to it that could make it unsafe to use in the future. I am just worried that all my new parts could become paperweights (like my old ones, sigh). I guess I have the same question about my CD/DVD drives, are they remotely possibly unsafe? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

no, i dont think that the video card will pose as any sort of threat to your new componenets. are you keeping the drives for the next build, you dont seem to concerned about weather or not they are going to threaten your new build. hope this helps ease your mind.

More likely than not it is the power supply. What model do you have?

The old PSU was a 380 watt Antec. I am concerned about the vid card mainly because when my PC was starting to go south, the case literally would shock you if you touched it. And it SEEMED that the shock was more painful/powerful near the vid card. I once (before this incident happened) plugged an S-video cable into the card without shutting off the PC, could this have caused damage? Please let me know what you think, I am still skeptical. And I am also worried about my CD/DVD ROMs too, simply because of the new sounds they started making. Thanks!

something like that is usually caused by an external power surge isnt it 0.0?
only once i have i seen a psu fry everything inside

The building's wiring was not grounded. My surge protector indicated a "building wiring fault". I don't know much about electricity, but I think all of this was caused by it not being grounded.

same thing happened to me, fried my old system, getting new one soon

my guess is i was not grounded with a antistatic strap

but thas my guess
