if i have a motherboard that supports a 370 athlon xp cpu, can i use a 370 PIII chip instead?...i m planning on buying a board but i got a PIII 533mhz and a celeron 433mhz...both socket 370.

can i use one of these two cpus in a motherboard that supports a athlon xp if its the same socket?

i hav this motherboard that the celeron is in, and i swapped it with the PIII and it works fine so i think wut i said above may work

please help me because i am buying a motherboard soon

THANKS

Uhhh, AthlonXP CPU's are Socket A or (462 Pin)...this is NOT the same as Socket 370 and are therefore non-interchangeable.

The Athlon and Pentium are built on totally different architecture. It most definately would not work no matter if they had the exact same amount of pins or not.

I dont believe AMD had an Athlon 370, let alone an Athlon XP - I think the Athlon line started at about 500MHz. If you are referring to the old AMD K6 line, yes they had CPUs in that range, but not specifically a 370. The K6-2 had a 266, 300, 333, 350, 366, 380, 400, and a 450. All these processors ran on a Socket 7, or a Super Socket 7 mobo. May want to check again to see what you have...

Now that will be the ultimate day

WHen AMD and Intel build on the same socket for the ultimate upgradable machine

Oh how quickly we forget...

Remember the days of Socket 7? I upgraded from an Intel Pentium 166 to an AMD K6-233 without having to change my motherboard (FIC VA-503+)

Yah but can i Put a FX 51 in my Max3

I think not

I wanna see them use the same socket now

ohh...that was stupid of me, i didnt check how many pins socket A has... but anyways, i m doing a mod where i put a computer in a VCR, therefore needing a really small motherboard.... i hav one computer that supports socket 370 chips and i hav two socket 370 chips (PIII 533, and celeron 433)

i hav the choice of using either one so i prefer to get a motherboard that is socket 370...so does anyone kno where to get it for around 70 or less or if they're selling one...its ok if its already used or refurbished..
THANKS

i upgraded my p233mmx with a k6-2 550mhz a while back, now if they only did that stuff nowadays

Yea .. I was about to say :) I had this radical Laptop.. that I could drop my p233 MMX into .. or my K6/2 .. and it would work fine :)

.. I ended up dropping a k6/2 333 i believe? ..into it.. and overclocking it a few more notches up.. lasted for like i dunno 3 weeks and then died :)

.. and speaking of socket 370's :) i was cleaning out my closet and I found a celeron 700 ... now i just need to find a board and im going to ruin this thing :) ... i remember reading someone got a celeron 700 up to 1492... prolly ln2 but hey... ill see how far i can push it on water :)

we might see this again ... nothing is stopping Intel to build an x86-64 CPU if 64 bit computing suddenly picks up ...
