I planning to build a 2.1 PC system using my USB XFi HD as a source, I’m looking forward:

- Subwoofer: Klipsch SW-350
- Power Amp: Onkyo M-282 2-Channel
- Seattleites : Cambridge SoundWorks Newton Series MC630HD

I read couples of reviews about klipsch subs and Onkyo amp.
Has anyone experience CSW Newton Series MC630HD, because there’s not so much review about these speakers?

They look kinda... Weak, there are better options. You should look at bookshelf speakers.

The issue with bookshelf speakers they'll ocupy more space for descktop setup . . .

Most likely I'm going to try my proposed setup above since such a setup is rarely known,,,
 
I'd ditch the Klipsch subwoofer. I think it doesn't perform well for the money.

Consider a subwoofer from HSU Research or SVS instead. How big is your room?

I'd also reconsider using a just a power amp. I'm not sure the X-Fi is going to give you enough gain. Considering the speakers you'll be using, might as well just go with a receiver.

Good for you, But if you didnt heed any advice given why did you ask? Also looking forward to your impression.
 
Cambridge Audio is a respected name. Cambridge Soundworks... not so much. They are closer to Bose than anything else (more focus on marketing than quality). Not to say they are utter junk, just overpriced.

I'd consider Bose to be a good value these days.

The Acoustimass 3 and 5 are $200 and $400 respectively. Far cheaper than they once were.

The Acoustimass still sound like crap though. Cheap drivers, and a huge, gaping hole in the response between the "bass module" and the "cubes".
Cambridge Soundworks use to be a pretty well respected company. Started by Henry Kloss, who was heavily involved in AR and Advent years and years ago. I see they were bought by Creative a few years ago, so it is probably crap now too.

People will still buy it I mean look at the frequency response on most 2.1 systems from brands like Logitech. That and every person who has no knowledge of sound "Knows" Bose is the best :rolleyes:

True, but Logitech sells theirs as computer speakers. Bose claims their speakers are true high-fidelity.
Oh, well. Enough Bose bashing thread crapping and back on topic!
 
I just got my setup recently, I was surprised with the sizes of the onkyo amp, klipsch sub and CSW MC630HD they are bigger than the pictures in website. I’m going to perform more testing once they become burnt but my initial impression for the CSW Newton Series MC630HDs, I think they’re overkill for a PC desktop and uncomfortable at high volume at near field listening.
May be they need burn in time to be optimal I’ll be back later on . . .:cool:
 
I'd like to hear your opinion on just the cambridge soundworks speakers. People shouldn't be fooled by the small sats of cambridge soundworks speaker systems. They sound surprisingly good. At least these did. My friend's brother had those a decade ago and I remember being absolutely amazed at how good they sounded. Nothing like logitech sound. Much more crisp and balanced tonality, clean and extended highs and lows with nothing sticking out. Excellent for nearfield listening ( = computer use). I would buy them if they were still in production just to own them. Anyway getting offtopic here.
 
I think the new Microworks and Soundworks looks quite close to the older units.
 
i had a creative cambridge soundworks speakers last time, it was the DT2200

the best for gaming lol , it rock my house. i bought it 14 years ago , its now a legacy speakers.

i don't know what are the replacement for this model DT2200, but when i played bf 1942 , it shake my whole double story house door frames . . . is it was i were in the real field of 1942

lol the artillery shooting its shells was exciting. power punch

so i'd give a thumbs up to cambridge soundworks speakers, if you have the money for it go for it.
