calm

It has been awful quiet in here today...

On-topic.... seems like the Aussie's daily gain on us is stayed basically the same over the past few weeks... still a painful 30-33k point gain per day, but it's not growing.....

Where is everyone today?

Keep on Folding!!

I believe the “media” refers to this a “A slow news weekend”.

Of course, it’s hard to tell what “Media” to actually believe these days

A good article on the BBC, was it not?

Possible more folks will fold due to that.

;)

Why do the Aussie's do so well, but God Bless Them?

It's winter in the southern hemisphere.... hence low ambient temps and higher overclocks…. Add in the loss of Midnight, and you have a major performance gap… that’s just a couple of the many reasons….

God bless them yes... but wouldn't it be nice to be out producing them again?? :D

Keep on Folding!!

I see. Good points.

Well in my tiny way, I've installed the console v. just now after a full re-install I've been working on.

So, I've got all Gromacs cores. One after the other! Cool

Now I'll make that other directory as you've all instructed, and with HT enabled on XP, well.

Might have another P4 folding here in a couple of days.

Baby steps at the Aussies. :D

The gentlepeople from down under have always been good competition and an awesome force. We appear to have more members; they appear to have more computers.

Lest we forget we have other competition as well. If you look at overlcockers.com they have been getting closer and closer all this year.

Many people have become serious about this project and are working hard on it. What ever their individual or team motivations they are all to be commended. :D

Nicely done BillR. Hear! Hear!

I love the Aussies, they used to come to Newport for the America's Cup.

Never forgot the line from them: "crack a tinny mate? " translation = do you want a beer?

I love them! :D

Calm is OK, I'd like to be posting more, but this is the first time I've been able to take a break from work today. Mondays are insanely busy for some reason.

i know the gmail thing went well, but if we wanna catch up to the Aussies again we really gotta have some sort of big recruitment drive... a good one  . i remember about a week after i joined i checked the stats for the team and there had been almsot 100 new members in the last week. It would be good to see stats like that again.

Fold On!!

I'm over 1000 points with my 11 WUs now :D Have another biggie going that should add another 250 points or so, but it does take almost 24 hours to complete.

The key ingredients to the continued success here:

1. Fbox giveaways

2. Large number of competitons (known as gauntlets)

New races started this month: 2nd newbie race to 10k, a second parallel race to 50k and more to come.

Major competition finished last week (with 36 participants) was a 30 day time trial, with separate minor gongs for each of 5 divisions based roughly on whether a participant was a one box folder, small farmer, or large farmer.

3. Folding exchange

We have no copyright on these ideas and would prefer closer competition.

A result of these various activities is that there is always something of interest in the forums, even if it is only to check your progress in the latest competition.

We'd love to see you blokes lift your act, else its beginning to look like a one horse race.

Winter? 24 degrees celsius in Sydney today. 33 in Darwin (thats 75F and 92F for any that are celcius challenged)

The long [H]ardforum outtage absolutly killed us, and we are still trying to recover.

We need more consistent front page pimpage. Maybe like a permanent link to hardfolding or something. That might attract more people on a more consistent basis. Especially when people don't read the front page every day and miss the few plugs that we DO get.

With milk, it’s the cream that rises to the top

With soup it’s the greasy goop that rises

Not at all sure what you get with an Irishman named “Papa-Ming ;)

Whisky, I'd wager, floating on soy sauce.

Yes...so....quiet and calm. Ahh calm, I like it when its calm. Its so tranquil.

I'm bored so I'm doing a little post whoring.

The Aussies... They're just one little continent. [H] is a conglomeration of multinational folders all across the world, and we're not beating them? Gotta find some way to recruit a new audience of folders. Hmm, any ideas?

We'll get there.

There are loads of reasons why we dont have teh ducky. We're a pretty big team... and they are out producing us. I say... go Aussies go.

The work is getting done. Piles of it. We're going to need a pile of recruits and a few Thz to catch up and hold them... and that in itself is a challenge. I believe even come winter for most of you, it still wont be enough to catch the 'roos.

Like most of you, I want to find a cure, feed my PC addiction and be on the winning team... but it looks like i have to settle for 2 outta 3.

We need to recruite tons of folks, even if we have to fib a bit. I have borged many boxen, but in they're own names. I would hope they continue to contribute, but in most cases they are, afraid. Gotta show folks they can help humanity, without compromising they're rigs.

well tomorrow it's supposed to be a high of 48, so personally im gonna OC this thing a bunch. stick a fan blowin from the window right into my pc :D

after a post like that, I'd think it'd be a mixture of whisky, coffee and soy sauce :D

I've a fine new keyboard now to connect to this one folding machine. The old board having suffered that laughing accident this morning. It is indeed " Relic's fault."
It's that I came across his post just as I took a gulp of coffee and then burst out laughing ,all at the same time! Then turned while laughing and knocked my arm...and well.

So it wasn't the gross thought of [whiskey floating on soy sauce]... necessarily. Though that mix could be a variation of the Bloody Mary, and simply called the Bloody Mess.

I've not one dirty key, one spec of dust now on my gleaming board. I felt the urge to srub and don surgical gloves before I touched it. Then again , I bought the cheapest one I could find, so that steril impulse faded. Whew!

Keyboards are insanely expensive! Could buy a cpu toward another folding machine for the cost of a keyboard.

I got my Logitech Elite for $20+tax. Easily one of the best keyboards I've ever used.

Ruining keyboards is something of a tradition around here.
It can be hazardous to equipment reading the DC forum on a good night. :)

yecch. I'm not old enough to drink, but I'm gonna guess this isn't one of the big hits at your local bar...
drink whiskey that is.

it's quiet... too quiet. i'm gonna get back to work on the netbooting folding. it's close. I want a progress meter before release. by this weekend I should have something pretty hacked together.
that's something hacked together which is pretty, not something pretty hacked together. i need verbal parentheses. or whiskey :(

Definately whiskey. I'll share my jar as soon as you're old enough to partake. ;)

Funny, IceCzar says he has conflicting images of me as either of these two:

http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~d3wall/pics/ming2.GIF

http://www.clivearrowsmith.co.uk/utilityimages/HH.jpg

I didn't know how to quote him correctly here without pasting that whole long thread, so sorry there IceCzar. He sort of makes me break things to with his ...Ming the Merciless, Dali Lama, Boris Karlof pics and such he teases me with.

Come to think of it, I haven't mentioned I was Irish to him, cause I just like Ming The Merciless :D
