Hello,

I just got a new boat. Its a 1984 Carver 32 aft Cabin...

I am the typical IT fix it all guy... However one of my weaknesses is graphic arts.

I was planning on naming my boat "Sea:\Drive" and I was looking for somebody that might help me out... I can pay but was hoping for some Ideas for a logo to go with the name. I was thinking of an anchor piercing a hard drive. I would like the hard drive to be opened up so you know what it is..

Just so you know, I have an old Sea Doo thats in good shape and still has "SeaDoo" on the side as well. I am going to take the SeaDoo logo off and put on the side "C:\Doo"

I like it...

anyways... if you can do something easily I would appreciate it.. I thought this forum would be the place to ask..

Thanks All

Chris

Sounds like fun! Don't think I'm going to have time to work on this, but good luck to anyone who does. Anyone who wants to work on this, make sure you do this in a vector format! If this is done at 72-dpi screen-style res, it's not going to work at all to be printed at giant side-of-a-boat size. (if you really want to do it in a bitmap format, make sure you use at least 150dpi and get the size in inches from OP to set up the file correctly)

Cklepinger, if it were me, I'd just go in to a local sign shop and see what they'd recommend. You'll have to take it there to get it printed anyways (I'm thinking vinyl cut-out lettering will be your best bet, but not completely sure), and a lot of the time they'll have designers on staff that can do this type of minimal design work as part of the job setup anyways. They'll be able to get it set up at the right size and print/cutout the right kind of material to use on the side of a boat etc.

What's your budget OP?

lol - yeah, just throwing that out there since it didn't look like the OP was completely sure what he needed, and this isn't a forum that tends to be populated by a lot of print designers. Just trying to save some people the trouble of going the MS-Paint rout. :p

Just a stab in the dark, but this is probably going to cost at least $200-300 per print in a material that will hold up under the given conditions, and you can probably double that if the print-shop has to do the setup/design work for the text before-hand. Getting someone to design/illustrate the anchor/hdd image mentioned in OP is going to tack on another few hundred, unless someone here wants to do it for free. So I'd say around $600-800 is a reasonable starting point for something that will look good and be applicably durable.

Alternately, to do this on the cheap, you just print your text out on large paper, cut a stencil, and paint it on by hand. That’s probably what I’d do, but then again I’m also too cheap to own a boat in the first place, so maybe I’m not the one to ask. :)

Well right now, I was just looking for ideas...
I was just asking for a favor to see what might be possible.. I will definatly hit up a graphic designer when ready..

It's not going to cost $200-$300 in material wtf? My dad used standard automotive vinyl on his sail boat to make his 'muddy waters' decal and it still looks fine 4+ years later.
