I'm sure this has been asked a shit-ton of times, but it's difficult to find exactly what I want (reading through 60 or so pages of threads over a couple hours really gets to you)

but: if you're air cooling, what's your cooler preference? I hear lots of people use the Thermalright XP-90/120's. What kind of fans do you use with them the majority of the time? Anyone using an AX-478 cooler on a prescott with good result? Is there any moderately priced air cooling solution that you would recommend above all other air solutions?


(I've got a bunch of swiftech stuff and heater cores and an eheim pump and all kinds of lovin', but i need 100% safety until I start working at home again--not worry about springing leaks [even though it's relatively unlikely if assembled appropriately..])

I use a XP90 with an Enermax 92mm. Hits about 67c at prime95 load. This is a 2.8 ES at 3.85ghz.
 
I have a P4 3.4 LGA 775 and I had a XP90 with 94 CFM 92x25 and it was running way to hot for my tastes, so I switched over to WC and now keep it very nice. in the 40s prime load no matter what i throw @ it.
 
xp-90 and a 92mm panaflo
3.0 @ 3.6 under 60 at load.
3.0 @ 3.9 66 under load. (To hot for me)

I keep it at 3.5 I`d rather it last longer and stay cooler than even OEM HS/F than squeze 400mhz out of it. I keep my pcs until they die ~3yrs for me and I don't think it'd last that long at 4ghz..
 
im considering getting an XP-90 but i dont know how much difference it will make. i have a 2.8E @ 3.22 GHz and it seems to reach a max temp of 65 C every time i play a game (according to MSI CoreCenter), and never goes above that. i think it's throttling as it would be strange to be at 65 C every time i check the highest temp, and never above that. how much of a difference would an XP-90 make over the stock cooler?
 
Forgot what exactly my heatsink is but it came from gigabyte. It's hellaofa huge.
 
I have the big aluminum gigabyte rocket cooler. Its nice, idle is 89F and 93F full load on my 1.8Ghz winchester.

Its quiet. 1 of the gigabyte coolers didnt get good reviews, cant remember which one.

Hmm.. Prescott users.. yeah.. About that... Its 1:02 Am and Im out of caffine :D

That's the heatsink I have. Kicks major ass on a p4 630 @ 3.01 ghz!!!!

The 630 is a 3.0ghz processor it better work better than OEM HS/F if not there'd be issues.
 
i saw that gigabyte cooler-- damn, that thing is huge.. weighs like 800 grams. don't know if i'd feel safe mounting that sumbitch in my case :)

looks like water and xp-90 are the most common, huh?
 
P4 560 running xp-90 + panaflo 92mm high + arctic silver 5
don't know if good or not but at 41C idle and 61C load
runs pretty quiet for me. good sound dampening case.
stock speeds due to intel motherboard.

i joined the xp-90/92mmPanaflo gang.
 
Im running a 3.2E @ 3.6 using a Titan Vanessa L-Type heatsink and it keeps the temps down to 23c/73f when idling and just under 40 when under full load
 
I have a stock fan and I run between 45 at idle and 55 under load. I don't buy all this aftermarket cooler BS anymore. It didn't do shit for my AMD, I have no reason to believe it will do anything spectacular for me now.
 
I have a 3.0Ghz P4E. I put a Zalman CNPS 7000 Al-Cu on it and it cooled down between 8 to 10 degrees celcius compared to the stock Intel fan.

The CNPS 7000 is an elegant and SILENT solution for cooling down the presscott and prices have been dropping since the 7700 model came out. I never overclocked my P4 so I can't say how the Zalman performs in these circumstences.

I have the Coolermaster Hyper 48 cooler it keeps my 3.2@3.6 under 57C at load.

Its pretty quiet.


I am using the stock fan, which is at 1200rpm. I may get a louder, faster fan when I overclock more. :p

 
you know, after i got my pressy-- and i'm using my ax-478, my idle temp is ~40C and my load is ~52C. Not too shabby.

Those lazy, hazy, crazy, days of summer temps of course. ;)

Ah forgot, in an old black Antec SoHo case, couple 80mm fans, copper Heatpipe Thermaltake tower that's been on since last year. I'll never take it off.

And I just used the leaf blower to clean out the system, as someone suggested last week somewhere around here.

I had to stand back 10ft from the case, but so very dust free now, thus cooler. It was too funny not to try when I read it. :cool:

Warning, do not try this at home!! :eek:
 
haha-- i've got an antec SOHO case as well--1040B or whatever it was..got it liek 3 years ago. although i've never blown into the enclosure with a leafblower, i have hosed it out with a garden hose (had to remove everything--unfortunate lan-party accident..:( )
