I just picked up an aria, and put my components inside(see sig). It's HOT!!! I knew it was going to be hot ahead of time, but it's really hot. A lot hotter than I expected. My CPU idles at 50, and my 6800gt idles around 55 and under load it reaches 75-80. I have an NV Silencer 5 on the 6800gt.

So naturally I want to cool it all down. I planned on doing venting mods before I bought the aria, but now I think I might need to go with intake fans rather than just vents. That 120mm fan on the PSU doesn't seem to do much at all.

I've searched the forums, and I've seen water cooled arias and arias with fans in the sides, but what kind of results do you actually get with the fans in the sides? If I do it, I'll probably put an 80mm in each side towards the front blowing in. I've also thought about modding an 80mm fan in place of the media reader and audio/usb inputs/outputs. I've seen this discussed in the forum, but I haven't seen pics of anyone who's done it.

Also, I have a gigabyte ga-k8vt800m, and the onboard audio has a "buzz" in the output, so I'm using a SB Audigy 2 ZS and it's awesome. I'd rather not have a big pci card restricting my nvs5. Anyone else have this mobo and this problem? If I can eliminate the audigy, I can cut a hole directly in front of the nvs5's fan and make a duct to it. That way it can suck cool air all day long.

What kind of temps do the rest of you get with your systems?
 
I'm at work, so I can't quite specific temps, but mine does run hot as well. I just installed the little cardslot blower unit that shipped with it, but I don't know how much effect it has had on the overall temps. I agree with you that the PS fan seems to be overly geared towards quiet, rather than cool. I'm thinking that a couple of fairly small intake fans mounted towards the lower front corners might help move air through the box.

Yeah, the pci slot blower is crap. My NV Silencer 5 is basically the same concept, and it pushes a lot more air than the pci blower. You can barely feel air current coming out of the slot blower when it's running.

I really like this case, and I'm determined to make it run cool and still be quiet. I can't find a decent worklog on this case in the forums. I think I'll have to start one :D
 
Do a search for my screen name in the for sale forum. I am selling my aria so there are pics.
The reason I bring that up is that I put a fan with a duct on the side of mine and the temps dropped BIG TIME.

I dont have the link handy and am running off to do something or I would link it up myself.
 
I did hear that antec will continue to work on aria cases, as it was a huge success. they will make a new revision of the aria case. just like what they did with the overture. but i have no idea what they will work on it. probably better cooling psu and a fan on the side of the case and better airflow. as there is room to work on. i hope they do it cuz temps will go down a lot.fingers crossed.
 
Same situation. Put a 80mm case fan on the PCI side of the case and watched temps drop by 5c. It was well worth the effort.

The buzzing on your Gigabyte board is a known problem, but there doesn't appear to be a fix from Gigabyte unless you complain to them directly. Hence, I am doing the Audigy2 setup as well.

So, you have an NV5 Silencer on yours and it fits in the Aria? I wanted to do this, but I held off cause I thought it might hit the drive cage. So, clearance is ok?

Clearance is......well....it works. It's actually about 1mm to large, but it ends up closing. The drive bay actually rests on it, and the drive bay is ever so slightly not level because of it. But like I said, it's like 1mm or less probably, and everything goes back together ok.

You said "unless you complain to them directly". What happens then? Do they have a fix for it that they give out on demand?
 
you have to contact their support group about the issue, raise a stink about it and they will RMA it. You will receive a fixed board. I don't know what they changed, but it isn't as easy as going back to the store and swapping it. I remember also reading someone reviewing the Monarch Hornet SFF and they used the same Gigabyte board and had the EXACT same buzzing coming from the embedded sound card. Now, why would Monarch ship it knowing that there is this issue? I don't know.

Cool, thanks for the info. Rather than go through all of that....I might just get a cheap card that doesn't block the nvs5's intake...like this one

I've used cheap cards before. As long as they don't buzz, I'm fine with it. I don't use surround anyway. I am planning on creating an air duct from the side of the case into the nvs5's intake so it can suck cool fresh air all day long :D This sound card will leave me plenty of room.

BTW: Would someone please buy my old case.......look below in sig.
 
I put in a couple of 80mm fans in mine too -- one on each side of the case. I did have to trim some of the drive frame out, but not too much. Make sure you use a hole saw, it's a tremendous pain in the ass with a dremel since those side panels are about 1/4 in. thick. They're 2 aluminum sheets sandwiching plastic if I remember right.
 
After having that little blower in there for a couple of days, I must agree, it appears to be crap.
