Couple question for you guys who are running STOCK coolers.

Whats the highest you've been able to OC and still be stable?
Do you believe the added heat/performence is worth it (good ratio)?
What type of gains have you seen (FPS increase, able to max even more settings at higher rez etc)
What rez do you play at with the OCed card?
Are you happy with it?

Highest stable for me (running 35% fan) was 790/1060
I clocked it back to stock since the OC didn't net me much of an FPS increase. Playing at 1680x1050. Although I honestly didn't spend much time fine tuning the OC, might mess with it some more once I move into my new room which will have it's own dedicated air conditioner, maybe get a bit more leeway with cooler temps.

OCing this card probably isn't worth it unless you get aftermarket cooling and really pump it.

I have HR03 on mine, with non reference position of fan (due to space limitation). The card idle at 50C with 790/1100, I don't see any reason not to OC if you have good cooling.

Is that the HR03 GT?

HD 4780 in Crossfire

Stock Coolers from Sapphire.
Used CCC Hack and run fans manually at 40%
OC via Overdrive......790/1100 essentially as high as the 8.6 HotFix drivers will allow me.

No problems, max load temp was 70C.

I saw no advantage in gameplay, so I returned to stock speeds.
24" Dell at 19x12.
and no, I dont play Crysis.

HR-03GT on mine and im at 865/1100 and stable with about 8 runs in a row of Vantage Mark and an hour of COD4. No voltage mod and my peak temps were 64C but im swapping my 1,600 rpm fan for a 2,000 rpm version of the kama flex. I had the fan cranked fairly high and was running 790/1100 with the stock cooler no problem. I just setup an OC profile that had a higher fan speed and the OC setup. Switch to that before I went into a game. Worked out well. I should also mention I stuck a 60mm fan blowing over the VRM's becuase they were getting super hot with just the small sinks that came with the HR-03GT. Not sure if this helped any with the OC but it couldnt hurt.

@ 790/1100 via CCC with fan fix. before the fan fix my card was at 79ºC idle, and that's in an Antec 900 case with all fans set to high. raising the fan to 40% lowered the temps significantly. @ 1680x1050 i gained maybe a couple fps in crysis with this overclock. since the card is cooled very well with the fan fix i see no reason to not OC.

I'm stable up to 840/1200 if I leave the fan running at 50%... Very, Very loud.

I will be watercooling, so point 2 is null.

I gained about 10fps in Oblivion, 4fps in Crysis, the only games I've had a chance to play.

I play at 1680x1050 with 2xaa in Crysis, and 4x Edge Detect AA in Oblivion.

For 290$... Plus 110$ for a waterblock, this card is still 200$ cheaper than the 8800GTS640 it replaced. Yes, I'm very happy! I just need to get load times down, and get an add in sound card to finally complete my entire setup :p.

How do you get past 800? CCC maxes a 800 if i remember? I keep my fan at 50%, in my 900 i dont hear it and idles at 40-45 celcius

One way I can think of is to edit your CCC profile XML file with your own numbers. Other than that, I'd assume theres a 3rd party program, like ATiTool.

use AMD GPU Clock Tool to OC above 790. i also have my 4870 @ 50% fan speed and i can hear it loud and clear through my Antec 900 case. doesn't bug me though, the whole system is noisy.

what kind of framerate do you get in crysis at those settings with your overclock? I'm replaying it at 1680x1050 no AA on my 4870 at 790/1100 and i'm about halfway through. It's starting to stutter a little. i'm pretty sure by the time i hit the ice levels i'll have to drop the res down or at least some settings.

Right now I have my 4870 overclocked 775/1050 on stock cooling with the fan at 50%

Running solid as a rock with temps at 41c Idle and 55c at load.

As far as performance , it buries my old 8800gts 640 , Im very happy with it, playing STALKER is very enjoyable with all settings maxed and mods at 1680x1050. Best purchase I have made in along time.

Although I love it, I may end up selling it for 200 or less once the 1gb version comes out, I'll keep you guys posted.

I just crank it to the max which is 790/1100 with stock cooling and no fan hacks. But I have that Arctic Cooling passive heatsink that I'm going to install soon. I'll see what the temps are like and see if I need a fan on top or not.

Remember, framerates are null in this game, because the coding is broken, so take it with a grain of salt, a better benchmarker would be the World in Conflict time demo.

Crysis is relevant to me, WiC is not.
