Yesterday, I got on the phone to the sales department of XFX and Gainward and did a general product inquiry about the 6800 Ultra and there associate models.
The word coming out of XFX is that they don't intend to due major shipping of the 6800 until end of June begining of July, this is due the limited quantities the sales person was stating. He also did hint to the possibility that there would be a "Extreme Editon" to XFX product line, while some of you may want to take this with a grain of salt.
The word coming down from Gainward's, USA, branch it that they dont anticipate any product release until the end of June to, begining of July. Like XFX in there words, there would also be limited sales at the end of the month due to supply.
Nevertheless, the situation does not look bright for people, like myself, who have been waiting for a 6800. From now until the end of the month, there maybe scattered sales across of net of 6800 cards, but nothing in significant quantity at least until the begining of next month.

Well, I guess my decision just got easier. x800pro or xt. I wish I could wait for the 6800's to come out in bulk, but I have now sold my 9800pro (some sucker paid $225 for it).

damn does he have a brother or anything :) I'd love to dump mine for that price.

Well, now i am going to play the waiting game for a little while. I just preordered a 6800U from pny. I am in no rush to get it either...well some rush but not horrible.

What exactly is the big deal about waiting 2 to 2.5 weeks for what you really want, especially if you already have a decent 5900 or 9800? It just makes no sense to me, not waiting to get the better card.

And if you sold your 5900 or 9800 already, you had to know you'd be without possibly for a short time.

I sold my 9800XT for $350 about 5 weeks ago or so. I wanted to sell it, because it was 2 days before the X800 reviews came out. And I wanted to get a decent amount of money out of it.

I have been waiting without a gaming card for 5 weeks in my main rig, and Ive had enough. Some time was taken when building my new watercooled rig, so it wasnt all that bad. Not a total loss of down time. I wanted to really weigh my options between the 6800GT and the X800 Pro. Sadly the 6800GT is not going to be out for at least a few more weeks, probably well over a month. I cannot wait anymore, so I got a X800 Pro, it will be here tomorrow.

Yes I knew I would have to wait a few weeks, but if I had waited till now to try and sell my 9800XT, nobody would give me what I got for it. Simply because you can almost get a X800 Pro for $350, which is what I got for it. The longer you hold on to the old card, the less you will get for it.

I dont think we will really know which is the better card, untill later this fall. Too many games, with new features are supposed to be out by then, and the picture should be more clear. At that time, I can get the refresh of the R420 or the NV40 with much more certainty. This 2 month+ lead time from the previews to the cards comming out is very annoying. Its going to be almost 3 months for the 6800GT, which is just ridiculous to me.

This is why Nvidia is losing money and customers. They use to be such on top of products, by their lagging behind has cost them.

Newegg had a few XFX 6800 Ultras today. While I don't have a clue how many, I do know they went VERY quickly! Even after Newegg raised the price to $609!

Heck I'm about to sell my 9800XT and figured $225 wasn't a bad price for it.
