I have a PC in my bedroom with a 17" old CRT. This thing can support up to 1280x1024 resolution max. All the way on the other side of my house, downstairs, I have a 57" Sony CRT TV (KP-57WS500). It supports HDTV. I was wondering if it is possible to connect it to my PC via a 7800 GT that I plan on getting soon. Are there any wires that I could run from outside my house?

Or perhaps is there some sort of box that would stand between between my TV and computer that would connect the two and allow me to have a wireless keyboard and mouse by the TV. Basiclly, I'd like to be able to use the computer from another room.

I think my TV supports optical audio in, and my PC supports optical in/out. My TV supports all sorts of inputs. I have a DVD player down there along with a Cable box.

I'm willing to spend on this. I have 100+Ft of CAT5 cables already, I have a TOSLINK cable (3ft) I have a TON of SC/SC MMF 62.5/125 fiber cables, and I'm willing to use it all to get his done. I was thinking of spending $350 for like a 19" LCD, but if I can use my TV with the quality that HDTV provides, i'd prefer that.

there are special convertors that will turn VGA, Keyboards and Mice into a Cat5 cable, than will convert it back on the other end

It is very expensive. I'll have to raise some money for it, but it looks worth it. I would be able to extend a DVI output about 80 feet to my TV and play Farcry on a 57" TV. It looks like a damn great idea.

On the other hand, at that price you are not that far away from simply adding another PC right at your TV.

haha, yeah, for 800 I'm sure there are better options. $800 is a massive amount to spend on just a cable. Do you plan on gaming with this or is it more of an HTPC for movies, webbrowsing and that sort of thing?

Well I can use it for everything can't I? I mean, I got a mouse, keyboard and monitor. So I can use it for everything. Browsing, music, movies. Hell, I could even do some gaming with this.

Another advantage of this is that my TV supports viewing two channels at once. Meaning I can do any combination of my PC, PS2, DVD player or TV all at once. Well not all at once. I can do two of these things at a time.

I was dreaming some more, and thinking that maybe I can setup multiple desktops on the PC. So one desktop per monitor. Meaning that two people could use the PC at once. I haven't had much of an opportunity to entertain this idea or to see if it is possible, but it sure would be interesting.

And I realise that $800 is very steep. I'll never spend that much on this. Gefen, which makes that product, is the only brand I have looked at. So there might not be a $800 pricetag for another brand. Bottom line is that I'm sure I can get a better price for it elsewhere. Just looking on Froogle, I can get this thing brand new for $700 or less.

If I can get a good price for this, it will totally be worthwhile. Hopefuly I can get a cheaper alternative.

Take into consideration, this device might have latencies that could ruin the whole experience..
