Grrrrrrr NEWEGGG!!!!! so i selected all my parts on newegg then i realize holy crap i have an extra $80 on tax and i switch the zipcode to my old maryland zipcode and poof no tax. So does anyone know if any online computer parts retailers (monarch, club it, zzf, and more) do not have tax for california residents or is it a california law?

Its not california law, its state law everywhere. Newegg has bussiness in Cali, there are based there, so you have to pay tax. Your a californian buying goods from a california store. You have to pay tax, just like it was your local walmart. I belive newegg has places in jersey and tenesse so they pay tax too. I live in michigan, newegg is tax free, but a few places that have actual buildings in my state charge me tax.

Just shop around till you find someone with no actual bussiness presence in California, they wont charge ya tax.

AFAIK Monarch is the only company that I know of that doesnt charge CA tax

yeah it sucks for me too. Most business have physical present in california. Where i have most of my stuff ship to, its 8.75% and its probably the high end of the state as well. Been trying to find a replacement to newegg, but there not many that is competitive to newegg prices and selection.

I'd go with monarch, it is in georgia so you'd be good for sales tax. Anything in Texas is about 8.75% sales tax too. Is is maryland or maine that has no sales tax?

Even if the company just has a presence, like a authorized retailer in the state, you should be charged sales tax. Living in Kansas doesn't present much of a problem, though states are catching on to people buying out of state to avoid sales tax, this years state tax return form specifically asked if, and how much $$$ was spent on out of state purchases that didn't have sales tax collected, and requested a minimum of $15 for any purchases, or the regular percentage of total purchase prices
