Calibration software question

As you may know, I bought an Eizo CX240 about a year ago. Back then, at least here, you could choose whether you wanted the monitor only or to include the bundled colorimeter and colornavigator. I didn't really care for that, and it added quite a few $$$ to the price, so I bought the "standalone" monitor.

I am now getting interested in that stuff. A friend has an i1 display pro he can lend me. I'd like to know if I can simply use dispcalgui to do the whole calibration, or do I absolutely need ColorNavigator?

If your Eizo supports hardware calibration then do it with the ColorNavigator software. It's a much better calibration given that the correction is saved in the LUT (LookUp Table) of your display.

I do that with my EIZO and a Spyder4 and can only recommend.

Only use a software like dispcalGUI or the original software if your monitor won't support hardware calibration. ;-)
