I recently received the above monitor,and i want to calibrate it using spyderexpress2.
What should i set the monitor to before I begin the calibration?

Factory default?
Native Standard?
Other?
I usually have it set to dvi-photo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Mike

Set brightness to a comfortable level. If brightness is 25 or higher, set the contrast to 50. If brightness is lower than 25, you'll have to figure out the optimal level on your own. Make sure Advanced DV mode is OFF, and use the Standard or Text DV modes only. Do not use the Movie, Gaming, or Photo DV modes. Those mess with the colors dynamically, which will screw up the calibration. Use the Native color setting for best results.

Also, Photo DV mode may look nice, but it artificially inflates contrast, which clips the darkest colors. To get a similar effect with calibration, you'll have to choose a higher gamma level, like 2.5, but I'm not sure the Spyder 2 Express gives you that option.

Toastyx...thanks for your reply.
Oddly enough,I have the brightness set to 25%,{after playing with it for a few days}and the default contrast setting is 50% ,which I left alone.seems to look ok???
I will change it to standard mode before i calibrate..
Should I uninstall adobe gamma???
Thanks,
Mike

I have the 20WMGX2 as well. Have had it for 1 week and am loving it. It gave great results out of the box. I use Photoshop CS2 for digital darkroom work. I was playing around with my monitor last night I decided to calibrate it.

I THOUGHT I could do it with Adobe Gamma sincce I do not print my photos - I view them online so I figured calibration precision wwas not critical in this situation.

But Adobe Gamma doesn't seem to work well with this monitor. Not at all, acyually (or maybe it is a user problem:rolleyes: ). Now everything looks terrible - especially when I tried to gamma calibrate with the 3 separate colors. Now I am wishing I could return the monitor back to the initial state. I saved the gamma calibrations so I keep trying to do them over again but I never get a calibration similar to what I had initially (out of box). Using the single gamma slider tool in the Adobe Gamma calibration process gives me better, but not satisfactory, results. What can I do?

Can I bypass Adobe Gamma? Should I unistall it? Is there a default monitor profile in the XP Pro saved monitor profiles that I can select to give me back the initial calibration?

Maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and get the Spyder calibration software....

i tried the same thing at first with adobe gamma, BIG mistake, and its not user error. Set it back to factory defaults, there's an option in the settings and then pick a 6500K white point/color setting.
Adobe gamma doesnt work well AT ALL with LCD monitors, its built for CRT's as people dont use LCDs (or shouldnt if they are serious about it) use them to do image editing due to their poor color reproduction - except for very expensive models.
i would purchase a spyder2, it did absolute wonders for my benq 241W:)

I used spyderexpress2 on mine...
I would not use adobe gamma,.... I disabled it on my computer before calibration.
If you want to bring your monitor back to the default settings...go into the tools menu..scroll down until you find"factory preset"...this will bring it back to your original factory settings.
After you get spyder2,go to the colorvision website..register with them and download the latest software,you need version 2.3.5
Before you begin,darken your room ,you do not want any reflected light hitting the monitor during calibration..In my room ,I have the blinds drown....all lights off...except for 1 lamp about 15 feet across the room.
Set the gamma 2.2,...temp...6500K...this is the standard setting.
Start the calibration....,when it finishes..it will tell you the calibration was successful...and your done.
Here are the settings I use AFTER,I calibrated:
Brightness=30%
Contrast=50%
Sharpness=8.3%
Advanced DVI=OFF
DVI=Standard
Also,look at the posts from ToastyX ,on this forum he gave me some good advise...
Hope this info helps,
Mike

THANKS EVERYONE!!

One question, I'm not at my home computer right now which is why I ask......go to tools of which app? The nVida vid card app? The XP display menu in Control panel? The app that loads when I press the button on the monitor? the Adobe Gamma application?

Thanks for all your help.
