hey guys, when i use a calibrator on the LCD, do i have to set the colour settings of the LCD to default 1st before i do my calibrating, or it wont matter what are the settings on the monitor, as the calibrating will correct the colours?

thanks

yeah start on the defaults otherwise if you screw things up you won't really know where you came from and at what point you went wrong.

okie,
hmm but the brightness setting wont affect the calibration right?

or should i set to a comfortable brightness before calibrating?

It sorta depends on what you want to do. If you're just basically looking for accurate colors, I wouldn't worry much. If it is for photo editing, graphics, and such, it can be problematic.

The brightness actually is what controls your black level, unless you have a strange monitor like mine, which actually controls the backlight. If yours simply controls the backlight (I don't think that's common), then basically set it so it's comfortable. If it is a normal brightness function, then you should be prompted what to do and how to set it in the calibration process.

all depends on what you're calibrating with, what device - usually the software will tell you what to do, and that is turn your contrast all the way up to 100 and your brightness all the way down to 0, AFTER resetting the monitor to its factory default settings.

whatever device you're using goes from there and calibrates from that point.

My calibrator actually does tell you to calibrate these 2 settings on your own before t hey auto calibrate the color..

It says to leave brightness and contrast to default settings because I think for most people it is too difficult to visually change the settings.

i tried leaving colour settings, contrast and brightness at default, and after calibrating the it's too bright for me..

so i tried to reset everything and lowering the brightness to a comfortable level before calibrating again..

"To set the contrast to 100, and brightness to 0" --> but the calibrating doesnt effect the brightness yea?
