What would be the "IDEAL" monitor for a contractor that using CAD to design houses. LCD? CRT? if CRT aperature grill or shadowmask?
What is most important to people that work with CAD.
I would guess Crisp lines and a massive screen
Was thinking either the 2405fpw from dell or P225fB from Viewsonic

Any help is appreciated!
 
I am self employed Architect; I use AutoCAD all day long. Anyway, I just switched from a Sony E500 21" Trinitron perfect flat to a ViewSonic VP201b (20.1 LCD). In large CRT's, even the perfect flats, you get a lot of curvature distortion especially at the edges. With LCD's that is no longer a problem and it’s great. You do have to turn down the Contrast and Brightness quite a bit b/c it’s a very vivid screen, and I highly recommend having a video card that has a DVI output.
 
I've been in a few different fields of Autocad and Microstation in the past 14 years. For the last 3 years, I've been the CAD/GIS manager for the local water supply district and I am running a dual setup using 2 Dell 2001fp monitors with Autodesk Map 2005. This is the best set up I've used yet. Here at home, I am using 2 Dell 2005fpw's (the widescreen monitors) and although I do love these, I think I prefer the 2001's for all my CAD work. The over all size in 4:3 rather than 16:9 is much nicer to use a dual setup for CAD work and more toolbar/pallet friendly. There just isn't an alternative once you experience a dual setup. To have your CAD open in one monitor and your Access, Excel, or Oracle database open in the other makes linking the two so much easier. I use to work for a CATV firm designing Broadband/fiber optic systems where I use a dual set up of 2 Viewsonic 90f CRT monitors. At the time that was a very nice set up, but with the advances in resolutions and response times, I feel LCD's are the way to go. Colors are more define and they don't have that "fade" or no where near the "Glare" issues you get with an older CRT.

I'm not familiar with the newer 2405's. They are very nice monitors for the gamer/movie watcher, and probably the photo/movie editor, but for CAD use, you would benefit much more by using a dual monitor set up rather than a single monitor that is slightly larger.

My high recommendation, keep an eye out for the many great coupon deals that happen almost weekly for dell monitors and get 2 2001fw's. For about $900-$1000, you could have the ideal dual monitor setup. ... At the very least, get 1 of them. You won't regret it.
 
I am an amatuer CAD user, but I still find working on my LCD w/ DVI connection much comfortable than CRTs.

Apple 30", hands down. I use it for science apps that are as real estate demanding as CAD, and it rocks. Changes everything to have that much space.
