Cache... vs a LOT of MHz difference.

Say I've got a applebred with only 64kb running @ 2.4GHz vs a thoroughbred with 256kb running at 1.67GHz.

I mean that's a 733MHz difference!

yep, that sure is 733MHz...

performance depends on the app.

not to be an ass, but got a point? or a question? lol

on average, the diff b/w duron and athlon is about 3-7%.
the athlon architecture (and k8) does not depend on the size of the cache as much as the p4 arch.

it also explains why a64 3000+ is like only 5% slower AT MOST against the a64 3200+

there have been a few reviews online comparing duron applebreds and athlons online.

LOL, thats what I was thinking :D

I say stick with the applebread cuz its alot faster... its not only 1 or 2 hundred MHz, its 733....

there is always the slight chance you'll be able to reenable the L2 cache anyway to do away with the performance difference.

and a slight chance the extra cache is bad and his CPU will be worthless....

that is the entire reason I said he had a slight chance of enabling the L2.
He can enable it just fine, whether it works or not the the chance part of it...

They sure are a bargain if you're able to activate the extra L2 cache. Even still, running at 2.3-2.4 ghz, they're exceptionally fast with only 64kb L2!
