this case is a few years old but i am going to give it another try before buying a sniper, rv02 , or a p50wb. can anyone who has or had this case give me any tips to cleaning this up? only thing to be added is another card in crossfire.

can still see some dust here i have to clean out.

you guys know what movie that is. the thin wire on the right is from the fan on the back (which is intake, cpu fan is sucking, and side panel fan is exhausting) and i can plug that into the mb on the bottom under the cpu, i just didnt feel like removing the hs/f right now. i am getting clips from mnpc to help with the atx and pcie cable bunch.http://www.mnpctech.com/CableClamp.html

several questions.

yours doesnt have the oval cutout on the bottom panel like mine, but you have 3 cut-outs in the back, behind the drive bays. did you cut them yourself? i guess if i had them i could mount my drives in reverse like you did. i only have a small cutout where the panel rise on a 45 degree angle, it's not good for much.

what do you use to polish your aluminum?

are you using something like an ex33n below your optical drive?

how do your have your fans set up?

did you cut that channel behind the mb tray where the24 pin atx cables travel?

do you sleeve your sata cables?

where did you get that side window? much nicer than mine.
 
My case used to have same mid panel as you but I removed it and duplicated in same thickness aluminum w/o the oval hole....

Aluminum isn't polished. Its still brushed and if you ever need to "refresh" it you can used a green abrasive pad and run in one direction to bring back the brushed look.

To replace 3 of the bay covers I am using Lian Li BZ-502B which lets you install fan as well. Here it is...

I have fan there set up as intake, bottom fan as intake, rear fan as exhaust and I installed a blowhole and another fan up top for exhaust after I installed my GTX285 SLI setup. I bought an extra BZ-502B and cut it up to use for mesh on the blowhole so it all matched!

I recently did the same thing on a extra side panel I bought from Performance PCs. They sell side panels with NO holes or window so you can cut em up how you want and make you own window (or none at all)....

I cut the channel behind the motherboard tray and also cut the notches and installed extra stock Lian Li white clips. Plenty of room to run cables now.

All the cables in the case are sleeved with sleeve from MDPC-X (Nils)....You can turn the harddrive cage around and center it better in the case so there is room behind to run the cables and they are not seen from the front also.

to turn the hd cage around, i would have to drill out the rivets? i am only using the top 2 5.25" drives, so i have room to just put a 120/140mm fan ghetto style behind the remaining bay blanks (came with the solid ones, but i replaced with the perforated). i used to use the ultima 90 and a xig sd964 so i could orient the hs/f correctly, but went to the true black when i got i7. my silver aluminum gets very dull very quickly (oxidation?) so i have been using a tube of flitz that i used to use on metal parts of fine scale models. i use a microfiber cloth made for cleaning/polishing guitars. its weird, the aluminum is just a little dull, but i get this black crud on the cleaning cloth from it.
 
The hard drive cages are screwed into the cage. 4 up top (each corner), same on the bottom.

The black stuff on your cloth is oxidation. Don't worry about it. You'll never be able to polish the aluminum with Fitz, you'd need to sand it much finer before attempting to you any metal polish. You'd sand up to 600 grit or higher before....

I'm using the Ultima 90 myself on my i7. My TRUE won't fit vertically in the case. I had one mounted horizontally but didn't like it for airflow. The Ultima 90 works just as good actually if you're not overclocking much. I'm at 3.2Ghz and my core temps stay around 45-50 C normally.
 
You'll DEFINITELY need to wetsand the deck plate then polish. I spent HOURS sanding and polishing my V1200 to get it how I like it....To the point I wanted to quit. Actually refurbing it as we speak for my new air-cooled build.

that looks incredible. but i dont need a mirror finish like that, it just seems to stain, and get dull very easy. the flitz just removes the stains somewhat, evens it out and gives it a slight sheen. i put a sheet of akasa acoustic foam on my bottom plate, but now i dont like the way it looks. removing it is probably going to be a bitch.
 
Dark Prodigy, that V1200B is absolutely beautiful. I'm actually in the market for a V1200B, but they're getting hard to find.
I purchased a pre-owned V1000B a couple of years ago & occasionally I get another case thinking it'll get better, but I always end up going back out to the garage & dusting off the LL & putting my system back into it.

This shows how the former owner modded it before I bought it. I haven't done anything to it, really, although I may try some of the above suggestions.
Stick with your V1000B or you may regret it later!
 
those old v series cases are just beautiful...i wish lian li would resurrect them

saw your case in mdpc.com!!! makes me want to polish my bottom plate, too.
 
Vanilla your case has lots of potential to look good, don't go for other cases. You should really get rid of the stickers on the 5.25 bays and the foam pad on the midplate. You should also swap out the rear and side panel fan for another one. Re-route your sleeved cables behind your motherboard tray.

Do those and post more pics :)
 
I was also wondering about that MuderMod sleeving.
Since the cables on my PSU are (mostly) modular, is it difficult/possible to sleeve them? It seems there's too much distance between connectors on these SATA cables.

MDPC-005 :D If you're serious about wanting to polish your plate I can help. It'll cost about $30 USD for all the supplies. Seems cheap but the work you have to put in MORE than makes up for it. In order to remove the foam I'd use a slight chemical process as opposed to scraping it. I find Goo Gone works well. For the materials and process that I use, PM me and we can get you started.

The Lian Li V series is an inherently gorgeous case. You don't need all sorts of crazy modding to make it look even more special. Even today no other case compares.

actually i put the stickers and foam on to cover up scratches and stains. i have been googling to try to find the best way to get the paxmate off. i was going to try acetone (ligher fluid) or lacquer thinner, but i dont know how they will react on the aluminum. so i will check out the goo gone. after i get that done, i will be pm'ing you about the polishing instructions/supplies. thanx.

to the other fellow - when you murder mod your sata cables, you pretty much remake them from scratch. you cut off your connectors, and buy some pass thru connectors from perf pc or mdpc and use those. its the most tedious part of uni sleeving, but looks great.

re fans - i really like these fans, they are quiet for 110cfm fans. also they are only $5 and come with a pci controller, a 3.5" controller and a thermister you can use for auto control. i could always remove the leds from them.

How deep are the scratches?
I'm no expert at this, but I would think a scotch-brite pad might help?
Deeper scratches may require a black magic marker (assuming your v1000 is the "B" variant).
 
i once had a v1200b that i modded by crafting panels out of ac ryan mesh-x to hide the hdd and psu chambers (they were attached using lian li thumbscrews), adding a 120 mm blowhole, attaching black anodized aluminum handles, swapping the silver casters for black ones, installing optical drive covers, adding 1 inch holes with grommets in the mobo tray to route the sata cables and other various wires, and notches in the back of the mobo tray in order to route cables behind everything. i wish i had not sold it. the guy who bought it really butchered that case. every time i see it, i wanna cry.
 
I've been tempted to replace my trusty V1000 with a V1200B due to the extra space...mainly for my 4870.
It's hard to find a black one, it seems. There's one for sale in the FS/FT, but I don't know if I wanna go that much for a used one...no offense to the seller, of course.
 
I have a 5970 and its fits in my PC-V1000 no problem. Not sure why you'd need a bigger case for a 4870?

I've got 2 optical drives & it's a little cramped since they're right in front of the back of the vid card.
I suppose I could move them, but I guess i'm a little lazy plus it'll give me an excuse to perhaps dabble in H2O with a larger case. :)
I've got a guy wanting to trade me a V2000 for my V1000. It's tempting me, but geez that V2000 is HUGE!
