Cable questions..will this work?

Just got some new parts for my dorm setup, and i wanted to check to see if this would work.

I have:
PS2 with optical out
DVD Player with Coax and HDMI out
TV with HDMI In, Coax out
Logitech z-5500's with Optical in, Coax in, stereo mini in

Here's what i want to do

PS2-->z-5500 via optical cable
DVD-->TV via HDMI
TV-->z-5500 via coax

My question is, if I send my dvd player to my tv over HDMI, will it carry the audio? If it does, can i then channel that audio out via the Coax out on the TV? If not, what is my best solution for getting the audio from my dvd player and my TV? I have 2 coax outs and only 1 coax in.
 
as far as I know HDMI does carry the audio signal, and I think you should be able to ouutput the sound through the coaxial out to your speakers.. why don't you try it, since you already have the hardware.. ;)
 
im off on break, and the hardware is currently 4 hours from me. otherwise I would try it
