Any cable modems better than the rest? Residential feeding 5 port wi-fi switch (linksys).

Maybe a DOCSIS 2.0 with QoS? As long as it works though, you should be just fine.

Cable modems tend to be fast but don't maintain constant communication very well!

I personally have a preference for the Motorola Surfboard modems. I've seen the suckers take a beating with a lot of use and keep on going without any problems for years. From my tests, they seem to have some of the best throughputs (contingent on your connection of course) and handle a lot of "abuse".

I got Comcast Workplace. They have a business class modem that gives 20+ Mbps download & 3-5Mbps upload. In the past year and a few months, I've never lost connection without loosing power, and my throughput stays pretty high, I don't think I've ever dropped below 18Mbps download and 2Mbps upload. So I guess it's all in what you pay for.

I had a power outage and now I can get 4 lights but no pc activity lights. I have hooked it to router or directy to the computer,to onboard E, then I added a 3Com nic no luck. Cable company reset my connection, and my video cable is perfect, so I am leaning to the modem took surge and knocked out the ethernet port (out) on the modem?

Modem works through the usb connection!! anyone have a usb(B) to rj45(to plug into my router)?
