I am looking into buying a cable modem since I am tired of renting one from the cable company. I currently have a LinkSys router and will probably buy a LinkSys USB modem. Had anyone had any problems with a LinkSys modem? Are their brands that I should stay away from?

Thanks,

if you plan on usign a router make sure the modem can support ethernet

If you have a router, I would imagine you are using ethernet, and most likely your router has a WAN port on it. If so, you probably dont want a USB modem, as your router would be kinda useless. You also wont gain the functionality of the NAT most likely built into your router. Check out the specs on your router. Maybe post them here so we all know.

As far as Linksys modems - never knew anybody that used them. Everyone I know uses the Motorola.

Motorola or Toshiba cable modems are the popular ones.
