I could use some advice as to running my cables in my Antec 900 case with an NVidia 680i SE TR motherboard. Its not too bad now but i was wondering what other ideas there are that dont involve cutting extra holes in the case.

yea i knew i shoulda taken some i dont have any unfortunately my rig is back at home and im at school...maybe next weekend

pics please, but the main things i would reccomend are possibly a 24 pin mobo extender cable (i would get one myself if i could be bothered) as well as a 4/8 pin 12V extender. i have one of these, so i know how you feel, but i just used lots of grey tape, an LED fan in the side, as well as 4 blue ccfl's and its either too bright to see inside the case, or people are wowed by the mobo and video card to bother with cables.

try and get a PSU, or turn your origional one over, so that you have the mobo cables especially against the wall of the case. Put your HD's in the very bottom of the bottom cage so that you can run SATA cables and power cables underneath the drive bay, then put some tape over the little gap between the cage and the floor of the case to cover the cables, and basically make use of the built in cable ties (i pretty much broke mine so be careful).

PS: how long have you had the case?

yeh, good job on those cuts firebane, what did you use to cover the edges? nice job with the PSU as well, i thought that someone must have done that, its just the obvious thing to do, but the sata cables, jeez, i think you should do what i suggested above, and maybe even get some right angled cables for them, either that or some UV ones, that might look pretty damn cool...

i don't have a good camera at the mo, or even the time to take pics of mine, but i might be able to sometime.

Found a thing of edging protector at a electrical store and was about 25' in length.

yeh, but move your drives, change the cables or run them differntly and maybe even get some ccfls and a side fan to make it look cool (and help cool that gtx youve got)

Thanks for the replies, ive had the case for about 2 weeks now, i pretty much broke my cable ties as well but i replaced them with some regular zip ties and have the cables running where they used to be, the only one i have out in the open is the 8 pin cpu power connector. after that everythign is running under the second drive bay fan so the motherboard is exposed fully, ill post some pictures as soon as i can get them.

yeh, what i did with my system at the mo is run the 4 pin 12V connector underneath all the adapter cards between the edge of the mobo and the slot covers, will get pics eventually...

i don't really get what you said, blackjack, have you put the drives at the bottom or in the middle?

The drives are at the bottom and the fan assembly is in the center while the cd/dvd writers are at the top, i didnt change it from how it came stock in the box. Since i added a fan in both extra brackets i basically used that to hold my cables down behind that between the bottom of the case and that fan. Then i used that as a channel to run cables. everything basically sit behind there. (Sorta where the 2 holes in the back are, i really need some pictures but all i have is one with the side panel on to show off the backlighting.

yeh, i ran cables for the fan i have in the side panel as well as power for my ccfls...

nice job JSpec, i just can't really be bothered to cut holes and everything in the sides of the case, and i still need to get a good power supply for it. nice paint job too, did you do a custom cable job on that rear fan? you can use the channel at the top of the case on the inside to run cables and it wouldn't be that hard with a cable that long. also, Blackjack if you look closely at what JSpec has done with his 4 pin 12V connector, that is what i have done as well.

I did run it through the channel after I took the picture, I did the paint myself.

anyone else got pics? i can't get, because my camera is still on its way, but i'd be interested to see what other people have done...

Ill have pics this friday im at school and am currently away from my build

So far nothing im planning a few differences as im getting rid of my 2 ide dvd drives and swapping them for one sata optical drive so that should help cable management a little.

im buying this case tongiht and definately doing the mod that that one guy did through the backplate that looks awesomazing.

well at least there's someone that agrees with me (bitch fight of 900 Vs CM690 still going...) what is it that you like about it? the fan layout? or the modular drive bays? as i said, it is a fairly big job to cut holes in the case, so be careful if you are like me and have no experience in cutting up cases...

I managed to do reasonably well with the 2 that are provided in the Rev 2 of the case. What i did(ill get pics soon) was run every fan cable out to the back and then ran one of my molex lines and attatched all the fans to it. The only thing that is across my motherboard is my 8 pin cpu power connector because its too short and in an awkward position.

this is wat i did to mine

Nice mines a little more difficult because i added every possible fan but i think i found something im happy with.

nice job mark, that is exactly what i'm talking about, running the cables at that very bottom corner on the oposite side of the window where the from the psu, around the back of the drive bays and up to the mobo connectors and even behind the mobo (i haven't actually done that but nice job). do you have a 4/8 pin 12V connector? nice job on the paint though...

Just finished this last night... I did cut a hole in the bottom so I could have the PSU right side up and have the cables at the back of the case (where I cut one other hole). The newer 900 models already come with a bunch of pre-cut holes. I had the HDs facing the other way, but did not like how it blocked the flow of air thru the case. I highly recommend using the Corsair HX620 PSU as it is modular so you will only have to deal with the cables you actually need, the cables are flat (which makes it easier to run everything behind the mobo tray) and the cables are longer than normal.

Very fun project, great case to work on, the best air cooling case I've worked with. I've already purchased another for my secondary rig.

still needs some work with the little stuff.....

thankyou blert, very nice job! i didin't actually know they were releasing a newer 900 version...

the only thing is, where is that fan cable on the side going? there is a channel on the window side that you can run fan cables or anything really to help with management, especially if its going down to the side panel fan...

Wow everyone's case looks super bad ass. I loved the pics so much I went ahead and bought an Antec 900 from zipzoomfly for $116 w/ free shipping.

I'm gonna steal Mark's black interior look too. :D

Thanks soundguy! ...Like I said, I just finished the build about 48 hours ago and have hidden and wrapped more stuff since posting those pics
That one wire off to the side is coming from a zalman fan controller (that I have all five Scythe SFF21E fans hooked up to) and doesn't bother me as you cannot see it when the side panel is on- but I'm sure my OCD will kick in and I'll tackle that one day...:D

If you really want to see a bunch of kick-ass wiring jobs on this case follow this link:

"A positive look at the Antec 900"

That was the inspiration for my purchasing this outstanding case!

spec and blert have u cut a hole in the bottom of ur case for the psu fan?

Yep- it now draws cool air thru the bottom and immediately exhausts it out the back. I find by doing that the PSU itself stays MUCH cooler as opposed to pulling in semi-heated air from the case itself; therefore with the PSU running cooler the internal temp of the case stays a couple of degrees cooler.

You just have to be careful with the cut you make as you could cut thru the two rubber feet- I started to before I realized it- so make sure if you do decide to cut a hole that you map it out carefully.

I did end up adding a couple of those 1 1/2 inch round felt pads on each leg of the case to lift it an additional half inch so the PSU could draw enough cool air- probably didn't need to do that as the PSU has a big ol' slow turning 120mm fan, but just to be on the safe side... and even with the case sitting on my desktop you can't see the pads,

yer iv done it to i just wasnt sure if u had..i had a mate that had his psu runnng like our ones with no hole i was like wat the hell are u doin!!!hahhahaa

You don't have to butcher it. All you need are two simple holes. They'll really help out.

QFT- with the REV 2 model you really only need to add one at the bottom to get all the cords behind the motherboard tray, two if you want to have the PSU drawing air from the outside -which I highly recommend after seeing the internal case temp drop by doing so.

Finally managed to take some pictures and upload them so here they are:

two views of the front of my case side panel off (click to view larger)

kinda shows how i tried to hide alot of the cables in back and keep the airflow:

And this one is of the fan cabling in the back...yes...i like electrical tape...

any comments?

not a modular power supply huh...

i really need one, but those cables look extremely long and i don't like the look of the cable sleeving...

you did do a good job with the PCIE power cable though...
