Just picked up a C6100 to work on my vmware skills and to visualize most of what I do at home. I am currently struggling with how to handle storage. I have a flexraid media server I would like to migrate over as well as handleing all the storage for the VMs I was looking into running a VSAN on this machine but am unsure of all the details to that. I currently have 2TB western digital greens, not sure if those can be used in a VSAN or not?

The C6100 has an onboard ICH10 Controller which in the GA line of vSAN all the ICH support was pulled. Dont know if it will make it back later on or not..

My C6100 Has Dell H310s in them to connect to the front drive ports this gets me my HCL vSan config... i use 450GB SAS Drives with 100GB SATA/SSDs

I am considering using 9 or 10 2TB ultrastars and 2 or 3 ssds for my storage config. There are so many different ways of doing a storage array it makes my head spin. At this point I would like to only buy 4 or 5 of the mechanical drives and expand my storage later. As of right now I only need 3-4TB of space and would rather not spend the $800 or so on storage all at once.

Looks like I could put one of these in each of the nodes to overcome issues with the ICH10 and vmware VSan
