A bit more to be very honest. However, keep in mind I’m averaging over 6k PPD with only one out of 6 machines being a C2D and another an old (by computer standards) Socket 754 single core at 2.24. The other 4 are all AMD running from 2.1 to 2.6.

My 2.6 Opty is very damn close to my C2D at 3.4 using VM .

My power bill is always of major concern so I have limited myself to 6 boxen, no borgs but a lot of tweaking. This setup is far cheaper to run then when I was running 20 or so boxen and those were way less productive.

This wonderful ride may/will of course come to a halt when Stanford downgrades the current SMP point structure which I’m sure they will. In fact if you look at Stanford’s page on points this has already started to happen.

They (Stanford) wants the science back faster then they take away the incentive.
 
According to results I have been seeing from other members and comparing them to mine (I have 4 X2s) seems to agree that a C2D is 30% faster clock per clock than an X2. So for your comparison the C2D is 60% faster.
 
C2D all the way. We all know that C2D was already the winner even before this thread was posted. :D
 
It depends on the proteins but with probly 90% of the proteins being gromacs now the core 2's are much quicker imo. My core 2 can rip thru 2 of the 1499's at under 5mins a frame each, for about 1500ppd total for the system according to EMIII.

This sucks. I haven't even got my dual core running and they're taking away all the fun :mad:
