C2D thermal paste application... line?

Is the whole lay a small line down method in the direction of hte cores still teh best method? Is buffing the heatsink base with thermal paste still a good idea? Ive read so many ways to apply it im almost lost. Ive always just used a thin layer but now im hearing its not hte best method. Thanks for any input.
 
SO the Line is the way to go huh? I did that this time around and my temps from core to core are about 4-5C different from each other. It seems to level out more tho under load.
