C2D Temps too high?

Well, for the last week I thought my temps were fine - 38ish at 3 ghz, 1.4v. Then I try TAT and coretemp, and I find out that my idle is actually 55! Is that very high? At load (orthos) I was getting around 71 from TAT, only 60 from speedfan/aiprobe. I have a si-128 and a e6600.

Edit: My hsf might have gotten some grease from my hand on it. That could be the problem... reapply as5?

Does your voltage need to be that high for only 3GHz? Most ppl can do that on stock voltage. My E6300 can do 3GHz undervolted to 1.24V and my load temps are around 62 with TAT and 55 with speedfan.

If I reduce the vcore will the temps go down?

Edit: At stock vcore, 1.325, temps are 48/50 idle

those temps are good right there. although i personally dont think 55 is extremely high. i was idling that in the summer (55). but now that winter has hit i idle about 45C. my vcore is 1.425 on E6400. not exactly same case but similar.

but yeah, if you can get your oc to work with less voltage by all means do it.

Something's weird now; Under full load (TAT) or orthos I get only a few degrees increase to 53. TAT says that the core frequencies are 300 mhz. What does that mean?

A bios update later, my idle temps are 51. Another wierd thing - If I disable qfan, the system crashed at the desktop. This has been true since I got the system.

Edit: 79/77 load. Ouch.

Edit Edit: 81! whoo...

Edit Edit Edit: 18secs and error w/ orthos. Up the voltage from 1.325?

strange....are there more than one set of temp probes? Whats with the wild differences between core temp and bios/probe2?

Running TAT...

I get 80 with coretemp and 62 with speedfan.

coretemp is actually the temp where the die is, or something.

Thats way to high. A friend of mine just got his C2d system running and he gets about 50c at 3.4. My temps at 3ghz dont even reach 50 at full load with the stock cooler. Unless I run TAT at 100% for about 5 hour, the max i reached was about 55c. I got cooler temps with orthos.
