i have my setup listed below...well i have an e6400 OC to 3.6ghz at the moment...and i was thinking of getting a q6600 my friend is selling to me for $160...is it worth upgrading my e6400 OC for the q6600? im confuse if i should get it or stick with what i have.....and 2nd if i get the q6600 would there big difference in speed?

What do you typically do on your PC? Three or more threads of encoding/ripping/sampling? Gaming (what games)?

For $160, I'd say you should wait and then make the transition to i7/i5 when ready. I would recommend getting a rather inexpensive 4GB DDR2 800 kit. Should give you a boost in speed.

I wouldn't take a used Q6600 for $160. You can usually get a used Q6600 G0 for $130-$140 nowadays that people can guarantee a 3.2GHz overclock.

I'm voting for no, you would have to really push that quad to get the same performance in gaming.

If you're at 3.6 with an E6400, then it's not worth it.

Q6600 is nice, and IMO better overall.. but not at your speeds.

Q6600s were going for 99 dollars at a store by me. Look for a deal if you really want one.

thanks for the advice.....to everyone to...and yea i be pushing my E6400 to 3.8ghz and 3.90ghz is the most i can run it on air with a Zalman 9700 and thats only on stable, but i leave it at 3.6ghz, plus thats all being powered by a 450w powersupply...aint that something...

i would bug your friend until he lowers the price.
thats too high, i bought mine a year ago for like $180. new.

as for performance, the extra cache and cores will basically give you double your current performance with a moderate overclock on the new processor.
its just a matter of how well coded the apps you are using are to see that difference. photoshop is pretty well coded, so, things would take half as long. left 4 dead is well coded, so you would see a big boost there. most games are gpu limited/or are poorly coded(ie not multithreaded) so you wont see too much of a gain there.
