I have had some good advice from BillParish within this forum. However, I still can't manage to overclock more than 2.1 Ghz. The dam thing keeps booting almost reaching POST then re-starts itself. I then go in check the BIOS and the CPU Host Frequency has reset itself to default (266) dissabled! Has enyone got the same board and CPU as me with a good overclock that I can try PLEASE.Otherwise I am gonna buy a Q6600 and forget this Overclocking lark (about to give up)
Gigabyte GA965P-DS3 (BIOS v.F12)
Core2Duo E6300
2 X 1 Gig Patriot Memory Extreme performance 6400
Nvidia 8800gts

you need to post your settings or copy/paste this and fill it in, resetting to default on a gigabyte board simply means you have your overclock settings to high or something not set high enough.

Fill this out and we can better help you

Code:

Drop youre multiplier to 7 and crank it up should be able to get 480 on that board. My 6300 did 3.4 on that board at 486fsb and mem at 970. just fiddle with it is all

I wouldn't suggest using anywhere close to a 480 FSB on that board unless you do something to cool the northbridge and possibly the southbridge.

MB Intelligent Tweaker(M.I.T.)
Robust Graphics Booster___________ Auto
CPU Clock Ratio (Note)____________ 6
CPU Host Clock Control_ [Enabled]
CPU Host Frequency (MHz)__________ 420

C.I.A. 2__________________________ [Disabled]

High Speed DRAM DLL Settings________ [Option 1]

System Voltage Control____ [Manual]
DDR2 OverVoltage Control__ [+0.40V] = 2.1 Volt. recommended is 2.2 volt
PCI-E OverVoltage Control_ [+0.1V]
FSB OverVoltage Control___ [+0.1V]
(G)MCH OverVoltage Control [+0.1V]
CPU Voltage Control_______ 1.3500

But I have noticed (AND THIS COULD BE IMPORTANT TO NOTE) that the voltage in CPU-Z fluctuates by over ONE Volt keeps going up and down?????

Try that? I know it's going against all OC rules by not adding more volage to the RAM.. but mine only messes up once in a while.. so long as I keep the computer on and not restarting it alot.

Thus, I can get the e6300 to run at 3.15ghz.. but it's pretty hot.. 60 degrees C with a zalman 9500?

Then you should already know the max multiplier for the E6300 is already 7.... the 8 was just an example.

Also the P965 board with the northbridge that board has can be done on passive cooling so long as you have good airflow even with a FSB of 486.
