C2D clock throttling

I plan on purchasing an Asus P5B vanilla to overclock an E6400. I have been looking around and people suggest turning off EIST and clock throttling. Am I to understand that if a person overclocks, they cannot take advantage of the clock throttling? I was hoping to have my cake and eat it too - Set the computer to overclock upon high loads and underclock when idle. Is this possible when overclocking or is it only possible when running stock?
 
I have EIST enabled and working just fine on my E6400 OC'd to 3.2GHz. I hear others hit a wall and disabling those features lets them get past it.
 
Yup, I have EIST and Virtualization, and pretty much everything enabled - Didnt disable anything.

I have 3.36GHz stable w/ the 6400 and Gigabyte DS-3 w/ a Scythe Infinity HSF replacement.
 
Okay, so it tops out at 3.2 (3.36 for Nitebane, Gj btw) under load. And once it idles it drops the clock down to a preset level. How does it do this? Does it drop the fsb back to stock, Vcore and multi? All three or a combination of them?
 
Just the multiplier. For the E6400, the multiplier is 8 at full speed and 6 at reduced speed.
 
But if the Vcore isnt dropped, then there wouldnt be a difference in temperature. So what would be the point in clock throttling?
 
I just started using RMClock 2.15 today (first version to support the Core2 Duo) and it's great, using ALL the power saving, multi-lowering and throttling options when I am surfing etc. and jumping back to max speed when it's needed - and all that while I am even testing a new overlock to 3504 Mhz. So overclocking and powersaving/throttling works fine.

Um, where did you get that information? Lowering the freqency does result in reduced temps. Lower frequencies require less power, hence less waste heat.

Try it. Monitor your CPU multiplier, voltage, and temp as the proc changes freqency.
