i just ordered the C2D 6600 and here are my specs for my new computer build,

C2D 6600/ Scythe SCINF-1000 120mm CPU Cooling Fan
EvGA 680i
Toughpower W0131RU 850W psu
2 x 7900gts with aftermarket fans/heatsinks on them
Western Digital Raptor X WD1500AHFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache harddrive
CoolMaster Stacker 830 case
CORSAIR XMS2 DOMINATOR 2GB (2 x 1GB)

i am going to be getting more upgrades for it like an 2nd harddrive.... prolly either an external storage hardrive or another raptor x but i just think i would want to use the second for storage.

i am wondering how much i could overclock my core 2 6600 with all of this in my machine?

and if the Scythe CPU cooler is decent?

can people with a 6600 please share there overclocking specs!!

right now im at 3.0 with 333 fsb
e6600 p5b-e
2gig GSKILl 800

using the scythe infinity.... which is FRIGGIN huge, too big for my current case Thermaltake Lanfire

need to get a new one....., anyway, i dont think my thermal paste was applied correctly, so Im waiting on my new case before i take off the HSF and reapply...

right now at 3.0 its running at 42 idle and max 58 under load....

which seems a bit high for the scythe

I have mine at 3.0 right now at stock voltages. Im sure i could get higher but i dont want the temps much higher. *Sigh* considering i have a Ultra-120 cooler with AS5 and a lapped processor I wonder what im doing to get 55-60 load temps. Maybe i should try to reset the Ultra-120 again one day...

i am little confused why the 6600 can only go that high when the 6400 can go 3.5 with no problem and can probably reach higher then 3.8!!

so i dont know if i should of went with the 6400 instead

so can the core 2 6600 get above 4.0 ghz or not? I am really starting to regret getting this instead of the 6400 because the 6400 i heard can overclock more then the 6600

percentage wise, probalby. BUT the average OC on e6400 = 3.2 average OC on e6600 = 3.4 but if you really want an e6400, sell your e6600, and get an e6400.

I'm sure there's someone on here who'd trade you.

by you

If you lower the ram multiplier, you can raise the fsb if you have linked fsb-ram mhz ratio. I had an OC of only 3006mhz BUT my ram was 935mhz. I lowered my multi to 2.00 on the ram, and the fsb up to 380-390 and I'm stable.

make sense?

My E6600 can do 4ghz and more on air. I have a good chip and it requires less than 1.55 for 4ghz. 3.8ghz with about 1.45.

I just got an E6400 for my brother to be used in an EVGA 680i.

Tonight I was able to reach 3520 (440 X 8) with 1.47 V (1.41 after Vdrop on this board)

I also got him a tuniq tower and people are right about it being the best air cooler in the world.

Idles 40-42c
Orthos Load 48c-52c

I use to thing my Thermalright Ultra 120 was the best cooler, but the tuniq tower really kicks ass!

Mine is at 3.32ghz, it will run dual prime95 in any stress test mode error free, or 2 instances of folding at home, or memtest86 error free including memory timings at 4-4-4-10
I can take it higher, and this is just on a Scythe Ninja, and a P180 w/ 3 120mm fans on high fan speed. I also have a swiftech 40mm copper northbridge cooler.
I would like some new case fans that put out some major cfm while maintaining this loudness or less.
I want to keep memory timings stock, and hit 3.5ghz+, but I have been too busy enjoying my machine....

I immediatly set mine to 400FSB x 9 = 3600

On Zalman 9700 whatever HSF... 1.350 Vcore

Idle about 40C Load no more than 52C... Good to go for me. Its smokin fast

I pushed mine to 3.51 and it was perfectly stable, but I have since backed off to 3.33 so as to reduce the voltage & temps.

how much do you tihnk i would be able to overclock mine with a EvGA 680i and a Scythe SCINFINITY-1000 120mm?

because i read reviews on the cpu fan and it is supposedly a great cooling fan......

but the tuniq looks a lot better then that and it looks like it would keep me cpu a lot cooler!

I run mine at 3.4ghz literally 24/7 ..yay for F@H

Zalman 9500
1.36v (after vdroop)
2 1GB sticks of PC5300

Got my e6600 to 3.375GHz with no trouble and never tried to push it any further. It's 24-hour dual-prime95 and 3DMark06 stable. Vcore at 1.325v. I'm enjoying this too much right now to spend any more time pushing it farther!

Just be sure that you set the FSB to 1.5v and the SPP to 1.5v on the 680i. Had to do that for stability and that is what's recommending by nvidia in their OCing guide for the 680i.

If you look at the overclock database you will see that this is not so on average.
