Trien to hit 3.4 on my C2d 6600. I am currently runing it stable at 3.200

Stable oc

400x8=3200
Memory=2.1V at 4-4-4-12 timings DDR2-800
Cpu V= 1.450

I had it at 425X8=3.400 at post up and threw bios, The second it try's to load up windows it goes blahh errors. black frozen screen only. Raised the ram voltage and cpu's nothing. Increased the timings to 5-5-5-14 nothing.

Using a Asus P5W DH Deluxe-newest version of bios
Ram is Corsair 2GB Kit DDR2-800 XMS2-6400

Any suggestions? haven't messed with the Fsb Voltage yet should that need a bumping?
Oh yea..I'm running it on air power to not a stock HS of course.
 
Your northbridge needs some extra voltage at these levels.

I like using MemTest86+ for testing. It's a dos based test so you can run it and watch for errors without having to boot up into Windows. You'll be able to play around with voltages and timings and MHz and will get some feedback if your settings have some potential or not.

With your E6600 and your board you're going to be better off using the 9X multiplier so the FSB frequency won't have to be so high which the Intel 975 chipset isn't very comfortable with.

is it relatively hard to achieve 3.6 Ghz on air nowadays with the e6600? assuming on a setup with pc2-6400 buffalo firestix, intel bad axe 2, e6600 and a tuniq tower 120 for 400 x 9 = 3.6 ?

Yes. It's hard to do that on air. The old chips used to be able to do that with 1.4-1.5v. Now, it might not even be possible to get to 3.6ghz with any voltage.

Not sure about that.I have 3.5 on a Zalman 9500 at 1.4v..Although Im trying for 3.6 if I can get my voltage up..:cool:

Try to boot at 380x9 (3420MHz) just to rule out the chip as the culprit. If you can test this stable, then your FSB / NB needs more power. :)

Just did Runing as we speak at 3.424 Mhz 380X9
memory is at 380.5 1:1 4-4-4-12-16

Seems stable atm.

Oh I bumped up the Nb Fsb to 1.30V If you guys think its to much just tell me :) .

Now for the massive stress testing :)
just errored after 7 min LOL
got past the 6 min mark now, Had to give the Cpu Voltage a lil boost. was using the Voltage from when it was at 3.200 Mhz

After jumping it to 1.4875V It Failed after 1 hr.
Bumped it to 1.500V 5 hrs still going strong.

1.500 volts for stability at 3600 MHz is normal. Nice overclock and good temps. If you're Orthos stable here then it's good to go. Single threaded gaming never stresses dual core processors the way Orthos does.

For comparison, I'm using 1.45 volts for the northbridge on my 965 based P5B at 425 MHz.
