..I think I just created a new word .. :p

anyhoo.. I'm running 7 computers in my home right now .. 1 is an old P4 setup as my Smoothwall box .. one is my wifes work computer .. so those 2 need to stay.

What I'd like to do those is sell off the parts from the other 5 (or maybe just 4 of them as I have one of the computers hooked up to my 56" DLP) to build one new rig that would pump out some good ppd for the [H].

what I have:
AM2 +5000 dual core
Core 2 6420 (Qty 2)
2gb modules x 8 of DDR2
1gb modules x 2 of DDR2
9800GTX
9800gt green(maybe.. won it here on [H])
8800GTX
GTX260 216
GTS250
Intel Micro ATX (Qty 1 for sure , maybe 2)
Intel 790i
P35 DFI
nVidia chipset AM2
PSU's ranging from 430wtt to 600wtt

Could I get into a high end i7 rig with the sale of all these .. and what would you guys recommend I get for maximum ppd

Thanks for you input

If by high end you mean hexacore im gonna say no. Now if you want a i7-930 950 870 possibly

have you been under a rock man ? :p

anyhow to answer teh OP......depends on the route, intel wise you can probably gt enough to get a used Intel i7 setup, if you wait until sandy bridge thats probably guranteed, you could alsoo probably squeeze a 1055T from AMD and 2 460's, which would net you 30-40k PPD

If you game on your systems the AMD and 2x 460's would be one heck of a system to play a game or 2 between WU.

looken' for bang for the buck essentially .. not necessarily the latest and greatest

You might also consider replacing that P4 smoothwall box with an Intel atom box or something, it wouldn't cost that much, should have plenty of power for that purpose, and would use a lot less power and cost you less on the power bill in the long run.

hmm ..very good idea!

you could probably sell all that and go with an i7 930, decent motherboard and maybe a gtx 460 or gts 450 and still have some money left over for a psu hdd's and case.. heck you could probably save some money by getting the 930 or 920 and a motherboard second hand here on the forum..

gonna hang on to my old trusty PC P&C 1kw PSU and old Antec case .. and ..my 150gb raptor for a main drive

Do you have a microcenter close by? best place to buy cpu $200 for a i7-930 $230 for a i7-950. the 1156 800 series i7's are a good choice as the boards are much cheaper and only 5% slower.
