If you're starting learning programming and want a nice general reference, I reccomend Stanley Lippman's C++ Primer. If you've been programming a while and want a detailed explanation, it's tough to beat Stroustrup
The first one; the second is a totally different book. This the one?

How about this one? (Updated?)

i actually find that learning C programming and then learning the C++ extensions to it helps a lot in learning this language. i've never met anybody who learned C++ the same way i did that feels differently.
note, this isn't saying to not learn C++. it's just a suggestion to get your grounding in the basics of C before you learn C++ (kind of like reading piles of books so you are informed enough to write one. CAN you write a book without reading tons of them? yes. however, your book will be better and you'll have an easier time if you've read many other books on the topic first).
edit: what is your purpose for learning the language? my answer may change.
