Not likely (although rumor has it that Intel has already planned to utilize this. TheInq, so... ). It'll more likely be Intel's version of HyperTransport.

Yes, it has been widely rumored that Whitefield (successor to Woodcrest) will ditch the traditional FSB in favor of an integrated memory controller and the CSI bus sometime in 2007.

AMD is finally making a dent in Intel, it looks like. It's great when competition works.

So much for the hype. I wonder what parts of Conroe will need to be scaled back in order to successfully produce it.

That's correct, Whitefield will feature an integrated FBD controller and CSI (Common System Interface = Hypertransport for Intel) bus.

Intel did a terrible screw up in their server line. ( both Xeon and IPF )

The good news is that in 2006 they will gain the performance crown in both desktop,laptops and 2 way servers due to the improved Dempsey and the Conroe familly.
On 4 way and up they'll be possible behind until Tulsa arrives.

But 2007 looks plain miserable for 4 way and up ( both Xeon and IPF ) if AMD delivers something good on 65nm.

I think you are making way too big of a deal then you should be. All of the sites except the INQ report that the "new" chip will be more efficient and perform better. I think what Intel will do is kill the FSB and give it a HT type connection to an external memory controller. Then, have however many channels of RAM. Or maybe they will have multiple chipsets? They can have quad channel FB DIMM already, but maybe the mulitple chipsets is a better idea.
