All of this occurs on an Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS with iceMat Siberia headphones. I have K-Lite Codec Pack installed and I use foobar2000 for audio playback.
For the last week or so during any kind of audio (mp3s, flac, games, movies, etc.) it seems like a roll of the dice where if I get the lower number I'm treated to a sharp "eeeeeeeeee". Sometimes the noise will stop when I end playback, but not always. If the noise doesn't stop then I have to restart to make it stop. It doesn't happen so often playing games, but almost always if playing games and listening to music. Sometimes it happens when listening just to music.
I've done three complete, thorough reinstalls of the Creative drivers to no avail. I'm lost, I don't really know what could cause it or how to fix it. I toyed with the idea that my memory overclock could be making the drivers unstable but it seems farfetched since it happens with an assuring continuity. Could my card be dying?
