Buzzing sound from 245T

Just received my brand new Samsung Syncmaster 245T. Awesome picture, but i immediately noticed a buzzing sound from the right backside of the monitor (emanating from the power source unit).
After contact with Samsung, they said that this is normal behavior.
In my opinion, it's so loud you cannot work with it in a silent environment, such as you home.

Has anyone else noticed the sound? Is at a revision related issue? Can it be fixed?

I silently wonder to myself why anyone would want to design such a product?
 
It's probably "coil whine" common for switching mode power supplies if wires in coils are loose.
Some have fixed that in PSU by putting more lacquer (that used in electronics) or heat resistant glue to coils to prevent vibration of loose wires.

If you have some electronics repair shop there you could ask it from them.

Maybe so, but I'm afraid I'm not willing to pry open my new monitor and make adjustments which will void my warranty on a 1-day old monitor... :) (By PSU i refer to the power unit built in inside the monitor. Maybe it is something else.)

I recently set up a new machine for my parents with the exact same monitor, and it definitely makes the noise you're talking about. There's a review on newegg that mentioned it too. It personally didn't bother me, and my parents don't hear too well so it didn't bother them either, but I can understand why you might be disappointed. I'm not sure what to recommend--either deal with it, or return it. :(
 
I had the same problem with my Samsung 245BW. I guess they are using the same PSU for both screens..

I could not live with it and returned it. Im trying to pick another screen, and i will pass on Samsung this time.
 
this problem is very common in Dell's monitors, and HP's. there is a flyback transformer, if the current acceleratesa bit much, it overload, and thus the buzzing sound. Do a search in this forum under noise or buzzing.

It's a defect, send it back. Samsung should have a 30 day satisfactory guarantee anyway
 
I have that too...if you can stand it, turning MPA on will reduce the buzzing sound.
Otherwise I would say it is normal behavior. Not that great, but nothing music can't drown out. At least it's not high-pitched, I guess...
 
Is there a chance of getting a 245T without the buzz or is it a general "defect" all units have?
 
I found some Samsung monitors produce a buzzing sound if the backlight is not at 100%.

My cheap 19" Acer also has a loud buzzing sound if you don't crank up the brightness to max. I've exchanged it and sent it in for repair, but to no avail. It sounds kinda like the buzz of a fluorescent light. I can hear it even when listening to music through my headphones (open style, but still...).

It's annoying as hell in a quiet environment; I hope reviews start taking noise into consideration since monitors really shouldn't be making noise (except for speakers if you really wanted to use them).

My other two monitors: an old 17" Hitachi and a newer 22" widescreen make very little electrical noise. These don't bother me since case fans and ambient noise easily masks it. I might notice in the rare event that the room is dead silent, but even then it rarely bothers me.

Though your headphones WHILE playing music? Holy crap. I can't even hear my loudass fans through music.Thats some pretty nasty buzzing :/ Glad my monitor doesn't do it.

It's not so loud that it drowns out everything; just loud enough to be noticable and annoying. This is music played at fairly low volume through my open-ear Senn HD600 headphones. I can still hear the buzzing, though barely.

Monitors shouldn't be making any kind of sound except maybe a very tiny bit of electical noise.
 
I've had 2 245Ts (the first one was deffective, and had some buzzing), but I haven't really noticed the buzzing sound that people talk about with the new one, but then again my computer is so loud that any sound coming from my monitor would be tough to distingwish from the humming of my computer fan.

BTW, my brightness is set to 82 if that helps.

Also, does anyone's monitor run really hot? I touched the top of my monitor after having it on an hour, and it was burning up. This is my first 24 in monitor, so I don't know if such heat is common.

LCD monitors shouldn't run hot - to my knowledge anyway: a bit warm from the backlight but certainly not too hot to touch.
 
I haven't noticed any sounds from either of my 245T's but I have noticed the heat. Each 24" monitor I've had (2 Samsung, 2 Dell and a Gateway) seems to get really hot but not too hot to touch. I also have a Dell 22" and there's very little heat compared to these.
 
I would categorize my parents' 245T as "quite warm" but definitely not "hot."

The 245T buzzing sound is definitely noticeable if you place your ear near the edge of the monitor, e.g. on the top. Personally, I could barely hear it at all in normal use, thanks to case fans :) I set the brightness of their monitor at 20, and still considered it quite bright for the environment in which they were using it. The white was greater than 200cd/m^2 when I calibrated it.

VikingR1, where do you live? I'm thinking it's a 50/60 Hz issue...
