Buzzing PSU

Hello, all
I've got an Enermax PSU (430w) that is making a buzzing sound. I've stopped both fans with a toothpick and the sound is still there. From reading other posts, i've determined that it may be a leaky cap or some other potentially serious problem. The funny thing is that we had some power issues here a few weeks ago (brownouts and short blackouts). Then, the computer being powered by this psu started experiencing random reboots. I'd check it out and it would be hung at POST. Resetting it would fix the problem, until one day the thing just would not post at all.

I moved the PSU into another system to test it out and it powers the sytem fine, but it's buzzing. So, I don't want to continue using this PSU if it's damaging equipment. Does it sound like I've got a bad PSU here?

Thanks!

It pays to play it safe! ;)

That's pretty much what I'm thinking. Does anyone know about Enermax's warranty? I bought this PSU from someone on these forums about 9 months ago so I might be out of luck. I can't find ANYTHING on the Enermax site about warranties or RMAs.

Thanks!

(pay attention to gee, who is an SMPS designer)

just spotty varnish \ glue coverage of the windings
annoying but safe to ignore, if you can :p

its a mark of poor quality control, and is a valid RMA issue
considering "quiet" is such a large selling point these days

Thanks, Ice. That's some good stuff. I'm pretty sure that must be what's happening. It's annoying a f@ck, and I don't think I can RMA the thing since I didn't buy it new.

you can "paint" the windings with a varnish
PM gee to ask what kind of varnish might be available at a hardware store that would do, or someone may chime in here, I havent had to do that
