buying new speakers

No offence but replacing the enrty level crap you have now with even more entry level crap = bad idea.
Tripple your budget and buy some real speakers. :D
 
Nothing supports 8 channels yet. Plus in my opinion, for PC speakers at least. anything over 5.1 is probably overkill.

and like Mister X said, to have any kind of "upgrade" will cost you more than $100.
