So I've been searching forever on whether the mobo I have would be compatible with an SSD Im planning on buying and some help would be well...helpful.

Mobo: ASUS Rampage II Extreme X58

SSD: Crucial M500 480GB SATA 2.5-Inch 7mm

I know my setup in old but I'm waiting for the new nvidias before i do an overhaul, but thought I could do with a boost before that.

Thankee Kindly

Question is what would make you think it wouldn't work in the first place? I had a Mushkin 480GB for my Q9550/ASUS P5Q Pro build that was done in 2008 and never had any issues.

Only real thing you need is at least SATAII; SATAIII to get the full benefit of the ssd speed. That's it, everything else is handled by the os and the drive firmware.

Assuming you're planning to move the SSD to the new box, there's no reason not to do it. It'll make the wait for the new system that much more bearable.

The sale price on the M500 480GB is a great deal. Do it.

@ Liger88: My extensive research was leading me to believe that newer SSds were having problems with older mobos, some people had to return theirs. Thanks you for the help.

@ teh_chem: If that's the case then I'm safe thankee.

@ BlueLineSwinger: Definitely will be moving it and might get a second for disc cache thanks!!

@ Hahah yeah it is, though the price keeps fluctuating on Amazon. Don't know why Newegg has it for a hundred smackeroos more.

Thanks lads again for the all the help
