Buying a unlocked phone

I am going to buy an unlocked phone because the razr i got with my plan sucks complete balls. And i was wondering what having the title "European Version" after the phone description means.

that is the phone that has sparked my interest. Does the title "European Version" mean that it only works in Europe?.

Search what bands are common in the U.S. I cant remember but I dont believe we use any of those bands (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900) you definately want to check what is the standard in the u.s. however.

edit: it appears the us uses both 850 or 1900 so this phone will work.

Who is your carrier? I called Cingular, told them I wanted my phone unlocked and they did it.
