buying a psu

ice czar i read that article and cant understand it do you reccomend the psu in my post for my power needs

http://takaman.jp/D/?M=PbQKQbdH3SCgHKTGiH3VjZAZavXCMZ&english

and thats before the 6600GT which we havent any good breakout for power consumption to rails for

considering the GT will likely hit the +12V rail even harder
even after we deduct amps for post spinup its likely those supplies will be outclassed
or close to it
I'll likely recommend an ATX12V v.0 supply and both those are v1.3's
an entry level v2.0 would be the Fortron Blue Storm

I'll do some more this afternoon, this is just a quick check this morning before work ;)

Hi all i am new to the forums and was wondering if the psu is enough power for my system and if it is a good brand to buy.

my system:
2500 barton
abit nf7m
onboard video (will upgrade to a 6600gt)
tv tuner card
maxtor 80 gb hd, wd 120 gig hd, seagate 200 gb hd
4 fans
1 ccfl
dvd burner
dvd rom

this is the psu

any help is appreciated

I actualy have pretty similar setup,
3 WD hdds, DVD Rom + old 4x CDRW (about 30W read write) 2 pair of ccfl, barton @ 2.3/1.725V, 9600XT.
Now certainly the 6600GT is going to soak up more power (atlot more @12V, maybe as much as 3A) than my little 9600.

but I have no trouble with my TruePower380.
The system's been on about 6 days now through gaming, prime95, switching lights on and off, and CPU speed changes (idel is 1.8ghz/1.40V, load is as mentioned) and my voltages stay within +/-2%.

I know Ice Czar is being conservative and cautious and that's good, we don't want to recommend a supply that can't hack it.
And I tend to agree, a low to mid range Fortron Source BlueStorm is probably the best option, make sure those drives get plenty of power at spinup, even if the PSU is already warm.
A BlueStorm 350 or 400 should take care of those drives / 6600GT pretty well, without breaking the bank.

Though honestly, I would feel comfortable putting a TruePower 430 in there, worst case temperatures would push the supply pretty hard on spinup for sure, but decent cooling in a not overly hot room, it should be fine.

czar i am not going to get the 6600 gt i got a 5200 instead cause i am not a big gamer so would the thermaltake purebower butterfly 480w be enough

Probably, the only thing I would worry about is the 3 HDDs

id rather run my 500W aspire psu than that thermaltake unit.....only 18A on the 12v rail....weaksauce.
