I recently ran into a problem with my laptops sound. I am thinking about upgrading to the Dell e1705. C2D, 2Gig, 80 7200RPM, 7900GS 256mb, 17in widescreen w/ TruLife, Vista, etc. Comes out to roughly $2000.

Has anyone had experience with this laptop. It sounds like a really sweet deal to me, and I am really contemplating buying it.

One thing that I am really cautious about is the video card. I assume I won't be getting great battery life from this card, but should I wait for DX10 to come to laptops? How long do you think it would be until that happens? And would it be worth the wait? Is it even worth getting a 7900GS in the laptop. The only other option would be the X1400.
 
Never used the e1705, but waiting for the DX10 laptop GPUs might be awhile.
Actually no one even knows really. They could come out next week, but probably not.

What exactly do you need a top end GPU for?
I currently have a X1600 (256) in my laptop and it does very, but it is in a 15.4" so it has less screen to power which helps.

a dual core turion with 1 gig ram, 7600 gs, and 100 gig harddrive, 17 inch screen

i'm very happy with the everex, there's even a support thread in mobile computing. its not at 700 which is what i got it for, but at 800, with another gig ram, which wouldmake it about 855 to 860, its still less than half what your paying for your 17 inch dell. is a few percent faster cpu and slightly faster in games worth over 1000 more? you can use that money saved for a new desktop if thats that important :D. hope this helps :).
