buying a 5850 or 5870 Depending

If I had to go on brand recognition alone, I'd go with XFX. Dirt2 with the HIS? Too bad, that was JUST on sale on Steam for $19.99. I'd prolly go with XFX, but that's just me. Dirt2 will be worth $9.99 in no time. That 2 years warranty is ... good for 2 years; and it's transferable if that's still something XFX does. Is it? You may want to look into that, don't take my word for it.

Do not buy an HIS video card! They did have a 2-year warranty (in the US) But...They went back to a 1-year. Anyway...Here is my link for my HF thread:

Here in the states...They really suck! I was told 4 weeks for my 4870 1GB (fan died & cooked the GPU) Received an e-mail on Friday saying it "might" be an additional 2 weeks (6 weeks total) They are some of the worst in the VC market! DO NOT even consider them! From here on out, it's all XFX for me! I learned my lesson!!! Plus...Look @ any ( I mean..any VC) reviews on Newegg. TONS of people complain that the fan dies. Doesn't really matter which VC, many people complain they fail! Just my 2 cents worth!

Performance should be identical with all the cards, unless you're getting an overclocked version. Each manufacturer just slaps their own sticker on it. So here, usually advise to get the brand that has the best warranty/support.

I had bought the sapphire vapor-x version only for the convenience with the performance of the stock cooler, as an upgrade for my current system (it was also $10 cheaper than the XFX at the time due to instant rebate). when I get into a new build I'll definitely go with XFX for their warranty coverage if that helps you any.

I went with the HIS 5850 only because I found it at $299 canadian when it was still selling for $350+ US and I didn't want to spend $400+ on one of the 5870s they had there.
I am not really regretting it too much, I wanted to get an SSD instead but am going to wait for a couple more months.

hey guys without overclocking how much better is a 5850 to a 5870. is it worth the 100 dollars. my taxes just hit my account so i want to order a card tonight. i need a card that will rock crysis and stalker and No im not buying a 5970

lol no its ok. im actually getting 2 5850's one is on order now and im going to order another in a week. My daughter comes first. i just completely redid her entire room in Dora like you wouldnt believe. It cost me just below a grand. Shes well worth it
Man, I hate to go a little ot but people with kids must REALLY enjoy tax season...I have friends/family that get 6/7 thousand dollar checks. Me and my wife barely get like 500 bucks...and she's already talking about spending it on bedroom furniture...
