buying 6800gt problem...

well...the chipset is going to be nvidia 6800 gt...but which manufacturer do you people recommend and why? there are quite a few and their prices range 50 to 100 dollars...so i am a little confused. which manufacturer to choose? and what's up with the price difference ?
 
Asus, Leadtek, eVGA, BFG are all good brands. I personally am VERY fond of my eVGA card. I had a PNY 6800GT in AGP and I like my eVGA 6800GT PCI-E alot more. The card feels like it's higher quality. Plus the Dual DVI is great. Although I doubt many of the AGP versions are dual DVI. It seems that its mostly done on PCI-E cards.

eVGA has the step up program which is sweet and BFG has the lifetime warranty. Both of those two cards are what I'd vote for.
 
Don't count out XFX. A lot of people seem to not like them because of Pine's past reputation, but I have a PCIe 6800gt and it's a great card.
 
IM using a used PNY 6800nu....what its running at is in my sig. I havent had any problems with it. I did alot of testing for core clock and mem clock and found a nice sweet spot for it. Its overlocked a nice amount from stock ( +55mhz core, 170mhz memory) and using the stock heatsink, however, i cannot unlock the 16 pipes. It will get tiny white artifacts in most 3d apps. I was able to unlock the 6 vertex shader so its running 12x6. Great card, for the price i paid for it, im extremely happy with it.
 
bgf has life time warrantee? that sounds kinda attractive...also, the bgf iam looking at right now has two fans in the card so...is that better than the other ones (which only has one fan)

and finally, asus. i am a big fan of asus motherboard so i tend to think their vid cards are also top notch, but its almost 50 bucks fore expensive then the others...any ideas why? also, does this have any "special" offer? (exp: bgf's life time warrantee)

I've heard that some people are having trouble running them in SLI.
 
BFGs 2 fan HSF blows balls from i hear. bgh,evga,leadtek,xfx are prolly the your best bet. i have an evga GT and as was said earlier, it just screams high quality. I love it to death. Leadteks warrant is shakey i hear but their hsf is MONSTROUS.
 
Though it doesn't seem to be the most popular solution around, I have the Gigabyte 6800GT (the one with the heatpipes and the monstrous heatsink) and I love it. Overclocked to 410/1.1 and is rock solid, not to mention looks insane in my case window.

yah, i saw the gigabyte one, the heatsink is huge! woulnd't the gigabyte one be cooler because of this? how come it's not a popular solution? If bgf didn't offer life time warantee, i would probably get gigabyte.
 
I started a thread looking for folks that have the Gigabyte, looking for their temps and OC numbers. I got zippy responses. Looks like I'm one of very few proud owners of this card.

I assume you asked this specific question because there's an Asus 6800GT w/128MB of ram floating around for about $100 cheaper than anyone else's card.

I dont like it, I did not buy it because:
it only has 128MB of ram
The 128MB of ram is vanilla DDR clocked at 700MHZ -- The "reference" specs are:

256MB DDR3 ram @ 1000mhz
Core clock @ 350MHZ

when considering the money you are going to be spending either way (more than $300) I'd splurge (and did splurge) for the full-spec'd 6800GT. Watch the hot deals section, I just picked my eVGA 6800gt up from Microcenter for $346 with shipping and tax.

*ed* placed correct slower speed of the asus product.
