buy now or wait?

Eh in my opinion overclocking to the absolute max isn't always needed, as that last few frames always costs a lot more in power and heat output.

Just do the standard 10-20% over and be done with it.. oh wait thats not the Hard way, but thats fine for most of us ;) Like with SB, peoples obsession with 5Ghz when 4.6Ghz suits me just fine...

What about way underclocked cards, released 100-200Mhz under what they were deigned to run at stock like their big brothers? adding 10-20% doesnt even get you to same stock spec. Like for eaxmple buying a 448, which is fed 0.2 less volts and 100mhz less than same chiped 580? Or 7950/7850s? List goes on but you get the idea 10-20% anit anything unless you're already buying top cards. 7950 has 40-50% left in it. 7970 sure doesnt.

Get 7970. Two. Then make ~$4/day mining bitcoins! (disclaimer - I have $0.057 per KWH power)

Practically FREE cards Nov! LOL

I have had ATI/AMD cards FOREVER... dont get me wrong, im no fanboy. When the 8800GTX came out i bought it, when the 4870, 5870, and 5970 came i bought it, but i have to say that games run smoother and better with nvidia. Exampe: Super SF4 would only run at 60Hz no matter what with AMD. Now its at 85Hz and playing beautifully. Also, Crysis in DX10 was also 60Hz but with Nvidia its what ever ur monitor is at, crysis 2 in DX11 was also 60Hz but now is again at 85. Last but not least, Starwars the force unleased 2 had no vsync no matter what and also ran at, u guessed it 60Hz, now its at 85 synced nicely. And StarCraft 2 plays amazing with FXAA on... i couldnt put any AA on my 5970 or my frames would dip below 75/85 at 1280x1024, now im at 1600x1200 and no zaggies at all. Hate to say it, i do... but Nvidia has put alot of money into developers hands so that thier cards run smoother all round. now if AMD blows Nvidia away next round, ill be back. But the games working better i will not soon forget!

I got a couple 7970s coming in the mail tomorrow from 1 680 gtx. Gonna see which is better gaming experience.

So u are gonna put 2 7970s in crossfire and see if its better than a single 680GTX??! As i said before ur post, there are so many games that play better on Nvidia hardware, i named onle a couple of examples. Im sure there is more. I Used to think AMD had better drivers until i played some of my recent games with the 680. You can add Farcry to the list as well. No vsync with AMD but with Nvidia it does it with no problems. Its kinda funny really, i remeber playing a demo of farcry with a 9800pro and not being able to get close to 60FPS, now i have 32xaa and everything maxed at 1600x1200 vsynced at 85Hz... looks nice but the game is SOOOO old it just isnt that much fun.lol

Went with the sapphire 7970.plugged it in comp would restart when playing games. Now my comp power cycles and I can't post....... I smell fail psu...ugh ocz what a buzz kill hope it's not the mobo
