Buy another FW900 or go LCD?

Long story short the family got somehow got into the room with my FW900, scratching the center of it. So now I have a decision. Do I drive back up to accurateit and get another FW900 A grade or do i finally go LCD? Budget is 600usd.

I could always just rip the anti-glare coating off but unsure if i want to dive into that as I am afraid i might do something wrong and really screw up the glass. So I would like to replace it and then work on it and maybe use it as a secondary later on.

I mostly game. Needs to be solid for gaming. I am more of a MMORPG type of guy than FPS but I do enjoy the FPS nonetheless. I had gotten the fw900 to also do graphical work as I am in school for digital media design. I didnt think back when i got this that 600usd would get me a great gaming/graphic monitor and am still not quite sure.

My main focus is picture quality without having noticable input lag. Looking at the 24inch LCD size and dont want to any lower because I enjoy my 1920x1200 resolution.


Anyone able to help me decide? Replace the fw900, or go LCD? Weight and space isnt a issue with me so being 200 pounds or 20 pounds isnt a deciding factor.
 
I too am looking to replace my fw900s due to all the new videocards having very poor analog quality vs previous generations when CRTs used to be popular. Is there anything out there that can even come close to the fw900? In terms of color/inputlag/smoothness, etc?
 
OP: Can't you just get the monitor repaired?

Doesn't Sony charge $350 max?

I was not aware of this. I figured due to how the anti-glare is that it couldnt be repaired.

I guess i can call them.

The thing is that i am within driving range of accurateit. So I can just drive up there and get one if need be. However I really dont want to spend that short of cash again.
 
Is just the anti-glare coating damaged? If so, you can remove it and just make sure no outside lights hits it. You could even use a hood if you wanted to. One off a 24" LCD might fit pretty well.

Only light in the room is overhead and it shouldnt reflect off of it.

The only issue with that is that i have a hard time finding really good reviews of after its taken off. And yes it is just to the anti glare. I am worried after i take off the film it will look like total crap.

That and the example on here looks very simple. However some others have said after they pulled theirs off there was substances left. So that got me nervous.
 
Ah, well, I wish I could give you some firsthand experience of what it is like after the removal, but I still have the anti-glare coating on mine. Since however you are looking to replace the monitor anyway, at this point, you don't have that much to lose by removing the coating. Should the removal prove to be detrimental to the picture quality and not to your satisfaction, you could just discard it or resell it. Only setback would be that you couldn't use it as a secondary monitor should it not turn out well in the end.

Well i used vasoline and it easily gets the small scratch. Its very faint and thin. Not deep. However i got to deal with the smudging. I can wipe it away to a very thin line but it drives me insane.

On light backgrounds cant see nothing. Now on darker with white text you can see a bit of smear. Guess i could just rip it off and if it goes bad i would replace it anyhow.


However didnt want this to be totally about the fw900. I can give a few things up i guess but wanted to know about a few LCD suggestions as well.
