But will it fold?

Who cares about game FPS, DVD/Bluray playback, max screen size, etc....

Will the ATI Radeon™ HD 4870 X2 fold and how well. These are the things we want to know... What about multiple card folding?

Yes and Yes, but unfortunately the points are not what they should be, YET. Considering each 4870 has 800 shaders, yes clocked at lower speeds, but still it has the potential, hoping it is eventually realized, to be a folding monster!

I too hope that Stanford revamps the client for AMD GPUs. Considering that the 4 series is very fast and that there are sure to be a lot of them out there definitely makes it possible. I'm seriously considering buying a 4870X2. Great performance and dual card capability on an intel chipset (without the 'need' for super-hot nForce 200 bridge chips).

Yeah, my 9800gx2 could use an ATI brother, but the points aren't there to justify it.

That's good thinkin' along the family line thing drgnfang :D I don't know if my measly 8800 GS needs a bro or a sister, but I do know my other Q6600 needs to go back to windose and a ATI 48xx something. I just wish the ppd thing was worth it :(

FOLD ON!

Seems like there's been almost nothing posted over at FCF from Mike Houston for awhile now. Maybe he's so busy working on it he doesn't have time to converse..

Please let this be true. Im going to grab 2 of thoes 8800GT tha the egg has on for $99. I just need a payapl check to clear so I have the $$.

If we had good ATI support I would be getting some ATI cards.

Don't forget to take a peek at that PCP&C 750 I just posted up. Sweet deal for sure.

It would be nice to see ATI finally get some lovin. It seems like the boys in red have put up with more than their fair share of crap with the GPU clients. First the GPU1 debacle (basically the part about keeping it quiet until the last minute.) now having to watch the huge point disparity with the Nvidia client.

It's GOTTA be hard to be an ATI GPU folder. My hats off to you cats sticking with it. I sincerely hope your patience is rewarded.

Yeah, it really is hard to justify keeping my 4850 on 24/7 for a measly 17xx ppd when my Q6700 gets around 3000 for the same wattage. I would switch back to an 8800GT/GTS, except that for the games I play the 4850 is significantly faster- and since this is officially my LAN-party rig (just happens to Fold whenever I'm not LAN'ing), games come first. I do hope they even the output soon. :(

Posting nothing on FCF doesn't mean he is sitting idle. He is busy working behind the scenes and testing new cores. Just be patient :)
